"What is the matter?" asked Jeanie.
"I forgot to bring something with me for show and tell!" said the child. "I've forgotten all week, and teacher says I'll be punished if I don't bring something today! And I forgot again!"
"Hush," said Jeanie. "I have something you can show and tell beyond your wildest dreams!"
She reached behind her back, and then brought out an old-fashioned brass oil lamp.
"Do you know what this is?" asked Jeanie.
"It looks like -- Aladdin's lamp!" said the child. "But that was just a story, wasn't it?"
"There is always truth behind the best stories. This isn't Aladdin's lamp. The genie of that one was freed long ago. But it is much like the lamp of the story. You may have it."
The child looked at the lamp, uncertain of what this strange but beautiful woman was saying. But, even if it didn't have a genie in it, it would still be a neat thing for show and tell.
"Thanks, lady!" said the child, who then ran off toward the school two blocks away.
Making sure no one saw her, Jeanie turned invisible, and then put herself inside the lamp. It was not like her bottle. Whoever rubbed the lamp would NOT be her master. But she might easily grant those wishes it amused her to grant.
