“I need my badge,” Dan squeaked, pointing at his clothes. The girl’s eyes widened.
“I didn’t realize you’d be able to talk!” she said in surprise. Dan was surprised as well. It must be a failsafe to protect the Product Demonstrator. “So, you need your badge?” she asked. Dan nodded. “Sure, I’ll get it for you.” The girl grabbed the badge and pinned it to the front of his footed pajamas. “There!”
“Ellie!” a woman’s voice called. The girl looked over.
“What is it, mom?” she called back.
“Time to go!”
“Okay!” The girl looked at Dan. “It was fun playing with you. I’ll have to come back and do it again.” She ruffled Dan’s hair. “Bye.”
“Wait!” Dan shouted. But it was too late. The girl was already gone. Dan sat on the floor, swearing under his breath. He was supposed to ask the customer to revert the changes back before they left. Now, he had to wait for his break or for another customer to scan his badge and change him again. Until then, he was stuck as a baby.
Dan sat on the floor of the baby department. His thumb went to his mouth as he thought about his next move. He could try to find a new customer in a different department, or just wait for a new customer in this department. Or he could wait until his break, and find his manager then to revert the changes.
