You hear yourself asking Jinn...about lunch. What the heck were you thinking? That wasn't what you were curious about. Why couldn't you say it? You couldn't even bring yourself to look at him, although you have the notion he is still wearing that smart-aleck grin on his face.
"Certainly, little sister, what would you like?" you hear that now-familiar voice say above your head.
"Let's find a bathroom and change back, first," you say without looking up, but Jinn does not press and silently walks by your side as you head to the park restroom.
Parting from Jinn at the door, you enter an empty stall and hang your backpack on the back of the door, waiting for the woman at the sinks to leave so no one will notice an adult dressing and leaving a stall where a child entered. Silently, you change your ears into mountain lion ears so you can clearly hear when she has exited. While you wait, you look down at your hand and change it into a mountain lion paw, then back into a child's hand.
Yes, you had been having so much fun you nearly forgot what you were trying to do here in the first place. You were leaving the human world behind, so why worry if Jinn would stay by your side? You just needed to create a plausible explanation for your disappearance so no one would investigate it, especially if you needed to use your identity again somewhere along the line. Jinn was just a part of that facade and nothing more.
Your ears twitch as you hear the woman leave the restroom, then you quickly strip off the children's clothes you are wearing, grow yourself back to your adult form, and change back into your clothes from this morning. Returning your ears back to human ears, you exit the stall with the backpack, check your hair in the mirror, pause for a moment to stare at your own eyes, then head out to meet Jinn.
