Gazing out at the scene playing out in my living room, I wondered, how could this many girls of various ages be hanging out in my living room. "I wish I knew what was going on?"
Another errant wish now brought memories and information flooding into my mind. I noww understood what was going on.
My mom, now Dana, was my 15 year old sister. She had been a Girl Scout for years, finally given some responsibility to watch over some of the younger girls. She, along with Mrs. Flemington, a now 16 year old Nancy, had decided to do a mock camp out in preparation for the girls first camping trip.
Mrs. Vranch, the now 7 year old Nina, and Mrs. Gabrielli, 8 year old Olivia, were the newest members of the troop. Nina had only recently become a Brownie scout while Olivia had only recently moved to town. Both girls were both excited and apprehensive as they talked with Mrs. Wells, 9 year old Pam.
Pam had in turn talked with Mrs. Priven, now 10 year old Kara. Kara and Pam were in the same class, the 9 year old excited about being promoted from Brownie Scout to Junior. Despite being a little older than Nina and Olivia, the girls seemed to get along with them well enough.
Acting as an in between for the younger children and my mom/sister were Mrs. Sheridan, Mrs. Janson, and Mrs. Sasson. The former adult women were now 12 year old Hannah, 13 year old Diana, and 14 year old Tracy. The three older girls were Cadettes, acting as Dana and Nancy's trusted confidantes when dealing with the younger girls.
Like Dana, 16 year old Nancy was a Senior in the Girl Scouts. Both teens helping to coordinate the younger girls into fun activities. This was how I now found myself surrounded by a Girl Scout troop in my living room.
Nancy and Dana were useing this sleepover event to not only help the girls bond, but as a trial run on a camping trip they were going on at the end of the month. Both teens were a bit nervous though, considering a previous trip had gone so poorly.
"Hey Joey!"
I turned now, gaping at the 15 year old girl in front of me. Dana was giving me an impish smirk, her shoulder length hair appearing slightly frazzled. "Hey Space Cadet," she grinned. "Think you can give us a hand?"
"Ugh sure," I stammered. "What do you need help with?"
"Can you grab some extra blankets out of the linen closet," she asked. "Wanna make sure no one is cold tonight." I nodded slightly, quickly running to our linen closet and returning with a handful of blankets. As I approached I could see Dana talking with Nancy and Diana.
I had to admit that 16 year old Nancy was cute. The blond teen possessing a perky pair of B cups that seemed strained under her night shirt. "Thanks Joe," she said warmly. "These are perfect."
I tried to talk now with Nancy, only to have the teen turn towards her charges. "You know she's not interested in you right," Dana giggled.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh cmon Joey," Dana exclaimed. "We both know you've had a crush on Nancy for a minute. But she's out of your league. Besides you know Nancy, all work and no play. I swear, she's like a robot or something. The perfect, responsible Scout."
I simply nodded, it appeared Nancy was a dedicated Scout, as well as far more popular than I was (even with a ring that could grant my every desire).
"Besides," Dana smirked. "Theres someone else here that has a crush on you."
"Who," I asked. Dana giggled, now gesturing towards 13 year old Diana. I gawked as I noticed the red headed 13 year old cast me a shy look before quickly averting her eyes. "No way!"
"Yeah little Diana has quite the crush on you big bro," Dana laughed. "I overhead her talking with Tracy the other day."
"But I'm 17," I exclaimed. "And she's what? 13?!"
"I know but you can't control a kids crush," Dana shrugged. "Look, I know she's young but don't do anything to hurt her feelings okay? This is really important for me tonight."
"Really?"
"Well last years camping trip was a disaster," Dana grumbled. "The one kid got sick after eating spoiled hotdogs and it rained the second day. Really want this one to go well. Nancy and I are trying to make a good impression."
"You're that worried?"
"Well Nina and Olivia are both new," she shrugged. "And they seem like sweet kids but I can tell their nervous. Plus Pam and Kara always seem to find trouble and Tracy is a bit of a ditz."
"I'm sure things will go well," I smiled. Dana seemed to brighten thanking me as she now returned to the troop. I now gazed out at the group of Girl Scouts, wondering exactly I should do.
