You are very tired. It probably has to do with currently being in the body of a child. Not caring what the cause is, you decide to go ahead and take a nap. You climb onto the couch. In a few minutes, you fall asleep.
“Can you hear me?”
You’re back in the dark place. Looking around, you soon see Saphira floating not far away.
“Over here!” You call.
The girl floats over to you, and examines you. As she does, you look down at yourself, and see that you’re still a child even in the dream world, and you’re still wearing a big dress on you despite your size!
“I see you have discovered how to use the spells written in the book. However, you must know a few things about how the book works now. The first is that each spell you cast will consume energy. Usually, this will just make you tired and may have some side effects such as a headache. However, they can be slept off. Some of the spells that require more energy though, those you may be weakened from until you have time to discover. Something else you must remember. You do not have the Book of Mind yet, and for that matter, your changes will not effect yourself or others mentally. If you turn an adult into a child, or a child into an adult, they will still be mentally the same. As, if you are to stop time, and go somewhere else, everyone standing around that area will see you suddenly vanish. And, if you change your own age, as you have now, people may not recognize you, or they may recognize you after all which can lead to some awkward situations.”
“Alright….. I think I understand.”
“Good.” She replies. “Now that you’ve seen what the book can do, you must find the other six. You promised to last night we met.”
“Oh right…. How do I find the other books?”
“It may not be easy. Those who use the books openly to cause chaos or fulfill selfish desires will be easy to find. For example, if a large portion of a city’s population suddenly gets turned into rats the Book of Beast must be near that location, and if a large number of people start to get amnesia or their memories seem to be screwed up, then the Book of Mind is probably near. I believe your world, as a program they watch on their Crystal Screens called News, which would tell you if something like that were to happen.”
“Crystal what?”
“Crystal Screens. They are not unlike our Crystal Balls in that they allow you to see things that are far away or have already happened. I see people sitting in front of them all the time when I examine your world. They’re usually box shaped and…”
“Ohhhhhhhh.” You reply. “You’re talking about a television. Anyways, right, I’ll watch the news for people turning into animals our losing their memories and stuff like that.”
“It will not be that easy.” Saphira sighs. “Well some of the books will be easy to find thanks to fools who do not cover their tracks, some books, will be acquired by more intelligent beings. They may only use the books to make subtle changes, and may even be aware of the existence of the other books and seeking them out. For that reason you may have more enemies than just whoever is behind the power that brought the books into your world. Please be careful. Also, when you locate a book, or think you know where one is, head after it immediately, as if there are others searching for the books, they may try to beat you to it. Each book alone has ten spells in it, but when the books are in the same place they unlock new more powerful spells. So one person with two books is more powerful than two people with one book each. For that reason, you must acquire as many books as possible. There is no doubt that you will eventually have to fight over one of the books, and when that time comes you do not want to be the weaker. As for using the books in combat. I have another piece of advice for you. Most of the spells require you to point at an object in order to enchant it. Though it is invisible to the human eye, this is because arcane energy leaps from your finger and strikes the object. For that matter, if two people both fire a spell at each other at the exact same time, the spells will meet halfway and cancel each other out. However, the spells travel faster than any creature can react, so in order to nullify another’s spell, you must watch for when they begin to cast, and try to cast the spell at the same time, or before.”
“. . . . . So, these fights…. If I loose, will I die?”
“I can not say. It depends on who you are fighting. Some may keep you alive, and only take your book. While others, may kill you, and some may transform you into another state as punishment for opposing them.”
“. . . .”
“Forgive me that I can not give you more aid. However, I can do this. From my end, I will try to track down the remaining books and tell you of their locations. That way, you can try to steal the book back from them first and avoid a fight.”
With that, Saphira faded, and from your dream you awoke.
