Jared got an idea, though. She didn't have to leave the fawns helpless. She could take them with her. Jared led the fawns to the old shack. It was still there, but the door was closed.
Jared scraped at the door but it wouldn't open. She had no choice but to run into it and hope it would break.
After ramming into the door three times, Jared managed to smash it and enter, leading the fawns into the doorwat. The place was cramped with three animals inside, but she managed to nose the board open just as she did before when she put the medallion there to begin with. Nuzzling it, she got her head into the chain. It was already touching the sock, and soon her forelimbs were shrinking, her body getting smaller, as she turned into a human male again.
Jared felt like resting, but there was no choice yet. He looked around the shack for something to transform the fawns. There was the occasional dirty item of clothing lying around, but nothing really useful.
Finally he found an old newspaper. There was one more possibility... Jared folded a child-sized paper hat out of a piece of newspaper. The medallion works when touched to a piece of clothing... well, a hat is a piece of clothing, right? And it may be a paper hat, but it's still a hat, and hats are worn by human beings.
He put the medallion on the neck of one of the fawns and touched it to the paper hat. The doe started to transform... and soon there was a naked four year old child standing there. Satisfied that it worked, Jared tried it on the other fawn. Now there were two four year old children. One was a boy and one was a girl, but they both looked a lot like Jared himself.
"Mommy?" said one of the children to him. Which made sense. When he became a doe, he started thinking like one. So when his children turned into humans, their mind was affected, too. Jared had successfully become human again, and took his children with him. Now, what could he do?
