Zuri Mwangi, alpha of the Oklahoma werehyenas, sat naked at her desk in human form hard at work on her response to Selena's letter. She wished she could just speak with Selena in person. It would be so much easier than trying to squeeze everything into a single letter. Oh well, maybe someday soon.
"Dear Alpha Selena," Zuri began.
"I am honored that you have chosen me to instruct you in the ways of our kind. Unfortunately, it may be a while before Shaman Kweli and I are free to travel so far from our pack, so I'm going to try to tell you what I can in this letter.
"Before we begin, I just want to say that I am very intrigued by your Werebrush and Ring of Embraces. Morgana didn't seem to possess them when I last met her, but then again she's always acquiring new things to sell. Does she perhaps have duplicates in stock? We could really stand to bolster our numbers against the encroaching werelions.
"On the topic of Taylor Wagner, Shaman Kweli has plans to provide her with about a month's worth of in-depth instruction. You will no doubt have noticed that enclosed with this letter is a bottle containing a potion. Taylor is meant to drink it. If shi does, a spiritual bond shall be forged between hir and Shaman Kweli. Kweli can then appear to Taylor in hir dreams (and eventually daydreams) to teach hir the theology, rituals, and spells of werebeast shamans. It is my sincere hope that Taylor shall prove to be an eager and talented pupil.
"I also have a bit of a surprise for you. I have sent my teenage cub Kibibi and hir mate Asanti to join your pack. My reasons are twofold. First, your pack is young and growing, and you need all the new members you can get. Second, Kibibi is getting hotheaded and territorial. Shi wants to take the fight to the werelions, whether we're ready for all-out war or not. Hopefully, a fresh start in a new territory will give hir a chance to mature and learn some wisdom. I must warn you, shi is proud and ambitious. I imagine shi'll be a great deal of trouble for you at first. In particular, shi's likely to have issues with being led by an alpha who is both white and a former human. You may wish to consider asking Morgana to change your race, but I understand if you're not comfortable with that. The important thing is to always be firm with Kibibi and soundly beat hir in every fight shi challenges hir to. I learned a long time ago that what Kibibi respects the most is someone who refuses to take hir crap.
"Speaking of warnings, I want to make sure you were aware of the fact that a skulk of werefoxes is camping on the outskirts of Stokerville. For all I know you already know, but I wanted to be sure. I don't know if you've had the misfortune of meeting werefoxes, but they have a reputation. They have almost no concept of responsibility, and they live mostly to engage in larcenous pranks an to have sexual escapades. To them, life is non-stop high jinks, and they don't seem to be able to understand the harm their antics cause to their neighbors. Fortunately, they are instinctually nomadic, but there's no telling how many months they'll loiter in Stokerville. What I'm getting at is that these werefoxes will cause your pack a lot of headaches and you should not-so-gently encourage them to move on. I imagine Kibibi could help with that.
"As for your parents' pack, don't confront them just yet. Wait until you are a large and strong pack with a base of operations and plenty of warriors. When that day comes, try to negotiate peace with them if you can. If not... well, that's where Kibibi comes in handy. Until then, just try to keep you transformation a secret from your family, aside from whatever members you can trust."
Zuri paused. So much for the introduction. Now it was time to buckle down and instruct Selena on how to actually be an alpha on how to be a werehyena alpha in as many words as would fit on one sheet of paper.
