Jared fought the urge to struggle in the bed of the pickup. Almost certainly the man thought she was dead. He slowly started looking around in the dim light. It didn't take long to realize that she wasn't tied up, but rather tied down. The ropes were there just to keep a dead dear in, not a living deer with human intelligence. They were criss-crossed around the top of the bed loosely.
Jared tested looked carefully at the ropes and realized that the widest gap was on the sides, near the humps over the wheels. She used her legs to slide slightly and quietly to those sides and waited for a chance to make a move.
It came quickly. The truck came to a stop at another red light. Jared bolted forward, slamming into the metal side but slipping her head though the ropes, her narrow body following closely. She heard a shout from inside the truck as the driver realied what was happening, but she managed to bunch her legs up and leap the rest of the way out, landing hard in a ditch on the shoulder.
She tumbled a few feet, finally falling into murky water before finding her four hooves and leaping out. She never looked back as she bounded hard into the dark woods, feeling pain from seemingly every joint and rib.
