As Jeff went downstairs, he heard a news report on the tv. A familiar local anchorman, David Donaldson, was sitting at his desk with an older man in a suit.
"Hi," he said, looking at the camera. "This is Dave Don with town news place. Dave is here with George, man who knows cash stuff, to talk about stock buy place and why it's not good right now. George, thanks for your time here at news today."
Jeff couldn't hold in his laughter. "Why laugh, Jeff?" his Mom asked, as she brought in some more groceries.
"Nothing Mom, Jeff just think of joke Jeff heard. Make Jeff laugh real good," he said, as he went out to the car. His change had some interesting ramifications. Since the anchorman's name, David Donaldson, was composed of a first and last name with more than one syllable each, he was now reduced to "Dave Don." Jeff figured he was simply "Jeff" now, instead of "Jeffrey." This made Jeff wonder what his Mom's situation was, since her name was Linda.
"Hey Lin?" Jeff said as he walked in. Jeff's mom turned around, as she was putting away the groceries. "Jeff, Mom's name is Mom. Why did you call me Lin?"
'So Mom's name is Lin,' Jeff thought to himself. "No big thing, Jeff just tired," he said with a shrug. Jeff's mom just laughed and kept putting things away, while he went back upstairs.
"Hmm...what should Jeff change next?" he wondered aloud. He decided to make another big change, and completely removed the past and future tense. "What does Jeff do next day?" he asked no one in particular. "Jeff thinks he goes to school, but when school's out , Jeff goes to his friend's house and plays games." Jeff giggled at that one.
"Oh, Jeff, can you come down and talk?" his Mom asked, which gave him an idea. His mom really didn't like cursing, so maybe he could make her lighten up a bit. He made it so the words "fuck," "ass," and "bitch" were more accepted, and used as terms of endearment in a casual way. Particularly, he made "fuck" a syllable of "love," "bitch" a syllable of "friend," and "ass" a syllable of "cute," with "piece of ass" meaning someone was really good looking.
Satisfied for now, Jeff walked down the stairs. "What does Mom want to tell Jeff?" he asked.
"Well, Mom goes out with Suz and some more bitch right now. Mom gets a lot of food for Jeff, so feel free to cook it. You can have friends over, like that piece of ass you've been with," she said with a smile.
"Mom! Jess and Jeff are just friends," he replied, talking about the girl he'd been crushing on for the past few months.
"Ah, Mom just tells joke. But, you have fun. Mom fucks you, Jeff."
"Jeff fucks Mom too," he replied with a smile.
After his Mom walked out the door, Jeff thought about what to do next. He could keep making changes, but he thought about what his Mom had said. Maybe inviting Jess over would be fun, and he could show her the Chronivac. Regardless, his stomach was rumbling slightly, so he decided to start making dinner.
