Vicky sat in a holding area at a military base just south of Chicago. She wasn’t in a cell, but it was close to one. A couple of benches along concrete walls, with guards watching them from behind glass and from walkways above. They had taken away her stuff minus her cell phone and wallet and had even taken her shoes. To prevent suicide attempts by those who would soon find their humanity stripped away from them.
She looked around the room, there was maybe a dozen other people with her, most like her where in a state of shock not wanting to believe what was happening. Others where crying and one guy sat with his arms and legs handcuffed and a helmet on. She had been told he had tried to beat his head in against the wall as he tried to do suicide.
A small group did stand out, a husband and wife who had to be about their age with a little kid who was coloring. Vicky’s eyes narrowed at them, they had to be volunteers, the government did not transform children unless their parents choose to have them transform.
Volunteers where those people who choose to become a mythical creature, to leave humanity behind and join the enemy.
She hated them even though she could understand why some might choose that path. Normally it was because a love one, a husband, a wife or the like where among the humans either already transformed or about to be transformed. To be with them or stay with them some choice to give up humanity even if it meant taking away their children’s humanity with them.
A guard walked in carrying a bunch of papers and began to hand them out.
“Alright in a few minutes you will all be taken to an airplane to be transported to your new nation.” Said the guard. “These documents are informing you that you have been stripped of your US citizenship and the governments of the mythical nations will present you with new citizenship papers.”
“You SOB.” cursed Vicky as she took her papers.
“I am sorry, but this is what we had to do for peace.” said the guard
“Can you at least tell us where we are going?” inquired another women.
“Sorry, I can’t.” stated the guard “Only the pilot knows to prevent people from trying to sneak onto another plane to go to a “Better” place. Besides, the mythical nations trade humans among each other, some of you may fly to Seattle to find yourself getting on a plane for Hokkaido Island in Japan or if you land in Miami you could be off to Cairo. I can’t say.”
“Great.” Cursed Vicky
“Alright, stand up.” Ordered another guard as another set of doors opened this one opened right out onto the runway. Sitting on the runway was a bright yellow civilian jetliner, the windows had been closed to prevent people from looking out.
Vicky stood up along with the others and got onboard, it took some time as more people where loaded on as people from across the Midwest arrived here to be transported. She was allowed to make one last call to her family before her cell phone was taken, the mythical nations didn’t want them bringing them in in case it was used to spy on them.
With that the plan lifted off and Vicky sat back and waited, since she couldn’t look out the window she could guess where she would end up. Would she end up in the Northwest being some forest mythical creature or in Florida as a water based creature, or could she be among the few who would be traded across the world to a whole other nation. Either way she hated it.
Maybe it was all the stress or maybe it was because she was board out of her mind. Soon she found herself asleep.
She didn’t know how long she was out but soon she felt the plane begin to go down as the plane came in for a landing. There was a bounce as it landed before the plane came to a stop and the doors opened.
“Well…I am sorry, but our journey is at an end.” Said one of the guards who had come with them to make sure nothing happened. He at least would be going back home, they wouldn’t. “Once you get to the terminal, they will take care of you.”
Vicky gulped as she slowly began to leave the plane, like the plane the boarding ramp had no windows so she couldn’t see but she could hear movement coming from the terminal. She took a deep breath and headed out knowing wherever she was would likely determine what general type mythical creature she would be becoming.
