In an underground scientific base, a scientist showed his two children an invention he made years ago.
“I know you two don’t always agree with me, but I need to retire, and you two are still my kids. Someone has to run the machine after me, and after today, you two will be in control,” Dr. Chron, the mad scientist, said.
“And share it with him?!” Lucy Chrom, Dr. Chron’s 18 year old daughter, complained.
“With her? Remember what she did?!” Edwin, Dr. Chron’s 22 year old son, shouted.
Years ago, Dr. Chron discovered an ancient artifact. While trying to contain it, he unleashed a wave that shot throughout the world. As it passed through everyone, some people noticed minor changes, dubbing the incident, “the Wave of Change”. Chron called the artifact the “Tesseract,” due to its similarity in shape to the four dimensional shape. He contained it in a glass tube and kept it in his laboratory. For years, he has experimented with the Tesseract, being able to adjust what types of transformations occur, and how many people end up experiencing transformations. Regardless, he couldn’t change when the Waves of Change occurred, as it consistently happened yearly regardless of what he did.
Dr. Chron created a computer that was able to change the parameters of the transformations. That is, he altered how severe the transformations were, what kind of transformations could occur, and who could be affected by transformations.
A year ago, Lucy snuck in to the lab and altered the parameters. She attempted to create a fantasy world, with wizards and dragons. Edwin caught this in time, and undid her changes. However, he did leave in some parameters, forcing some people he deemed evil to be transformed and removed from society.
“Edwin, we can use the machine to change the world! Why do you hate change?” Lucy asked.
“Because it’s too dangerous. We should only use the machine to protect society from bad people,” Edwin replied.
“I wish you two agreed with my philosophy that we should keep the transformations limited and random. But now the machine belongs to you, so do as you believe is right,” Dr. Chron said.
Dr. Chron left the lab, leaving his two children to bicker about how to use the machine. The next wave was coming soon, and he put his faith into his kids.
