Mervin said, "Excellent! For the first part of this journey, I want you to be a horse!"
"A horse?" Jurgen replied. "I guess that makes sense if we're going to travel."
"You get it! We're on the same wavelength young man. Now give me your hand," he ordered the farmhand.
"My hand? Right now?"
"Yes! You see, it's easier for me to start transforming someone when I'm touching them. It lets the magic flow much easier," the wizard explained.
"But right now?" Jurgen interjected. He'd just agreed to be his familiar. He didn't know if he was ready to travel right at this moment. "I'm not ready. I haven't packed or anything!"
"Nonsense," Mervin laughed. "What need do we have for your krimskrams? I have packed all we need already. We don't have time to waste. Now grab my hand."
Jurgen thought for a moment. He had no idea what kind of journey this was, but he felt he couldn't pass the chance to leave the farm. He couldn't pass on this adventure. He grabbed the wizard's hand, and instantly felt something rush into him. It felt warm. It was unlike anything Jurgen had felt before, but it wasn't uncomfortable. His entire body felt like it was on fire. He could feel his body moving, not his limbs moving, but his very frame being reshaped. Mervin released his grip as the transformation was properly underway. Jurgen felt his face elongate and limbs further stretch out. Though, it was strange to keep track of exactly what was happening. He could barely feel his body as this was all happening. It was all hazy, like a dream. Then it all stopped. Jurgen found himself a horse, standing on all fours.
"Magnificent!" Mervin exclaimed. "You make a splendid horse! Of course a big part of the credit belongs to me. It's my magic after all, but you have great potential. I knew I was correct in picking you as my familiar!"
Jurgen tried responding, but his equine mouth wasn't very cooperative in producing human words.
"You can't talk as a horse I'm afraid, Mervin laughed. "But what you can do, is practice moving around. My magic should help you, so that your body doesn't feel completely alien, but there is some work in figuring out your body from your side I'm afraid. I'll be getting my stuff, you can practice moving about until I'm back."
Mervin left, leaving Jurgen to figure out how to move as a horse. Jurgen started by feeling his environment. He felt the grass tickling his four legs. He saw around himself, noticing that it all looked a little drab color-wise. He saw less colors, but on the other hand, his field of vision was much wider. He barely had to turn his neck to get a full view of his surroundings. And the smells. He could smell the grass. He could smell the manure from the cows even if it was a fair distance away. About that, he wondered if the farm would be okay without him. He was under no contract and was free to leave, but still he felt some doubts about just leaving like this. He pushed those thoughts besides. Instead, he tried moving his body. He started with one leg. He raised it. He lowered it. It didn't feel unnatural to move it at all. He took a step. That was easy. Another step, and another one. Suddenly he was trotting along. This was much easier than he'd expected. Also a little fun. He upped his tempo. As his speed increased, he felt the wind on his body. Faster. Faster. Suddenly he was at a gallop.
Time quickly passed as Jurgen enjoyed galloping around. This was a blast. He then saw that Mervin was returning. He was carrying a sizable bag with him. He galloped up to the wizard.
"Look at you," Mervin grinned. "You have a knack for this. Sure you weren't a horse in a past life?"
Jurgen thought of a response, but then he remembered he couldn't exactly speak.
"The last time I transformed someone into a horse, they broke a leg within the first minute. I wouldn't recommend doing that. Injuries sadly transfers through transformations," Mervin explained while he strapped his bag to Jurgen's back. "Of course I knew you were at no risk. I picked you as my familiar because I knew you'd master this."
Jurgen figuratively gulped, but on the other hand it did make him feel a little proud in a weird way. He'd always been descent to good, but never excelled at anything. He liked the idea how having a talent, even if that was being good at being a horse.
"Are you ready to ride?" Mervin asked.
Jurgen figured he could still nod, so he did just that.
"Splendid!" Mervin grabbed Jurgen and pulled himself on top of him. Jurgen had expected him to feel heavy, but he didn't mind the weight on this back at all. He was as strong as a horse after all.
"Let's go! I'll you show the way!"
