Gillian becomes a princess

added A year ago O Magic

The fairy godmother waved her wand, and suddenly Gillian's head ached. She clutched at it, groaning, eyes closing, before she opened them and...

She let out an audible gasp, as the entire room they were in had changed. She was in a bedroom, quite wide and expansive, but a little chilly: the walls and floor were all flagstone, an open window in a rough triangle shape on one wall. The bed was expensive-looking, clearly a hand-carved four poster bed, piled high with silk sheets and furs and throws. The dull ache in her head was fading, as she walked over, looking out and taking in the sights of an entire city, the buildings medieval, staunch fortifications surrounding the entire place. The streets were wide, set out with market stalls, peasants wandering hither and thither. The smell of shit did rankle just a little bit, though.

Gillian turned, looking awestruck but also a little scared. "Uhhh, where have you taken me?"

The fairy godmother looked around, licking one finger and holding it up as if to sample the wind. "The Kingdom of Chanjem, I believe." She gestured at Gillian, wrinkling her nose. "Well, those clothes would never do for here!" She waved her wand, and a torrent of sparkles whirled around Gillian, until she found herself in a simple dress of emerald velvet, down to her knees, with a conservative neckline. A small golden circlet sat on her head. "Much better!"

Gillian looked down at it, before her head ached one final time and she realised what it was: she'd had a whole new set of memories inserted into her brain. She thought for a moment. "You... you made me the king's unmarried daughter? I'm a princess?!" She rubbed at her temples. Irritatingly, half of the memories seemed half-formed, like she couldn't fully remember her own life... only this wasn't her life, this was some magical world!

The fairy godmother smiled. "Well, yes! You're the king's eldest, unmarried daughter. In your 30s and no husband... well, obviously, they'll be deciding what you'll be doing with your life this very day!" The godmother smiled. "This very day, you'll be able to hopefully seize a truly great opportunity!"

Gillian shook her head, raising one angry hand to point. "Well, that won't be happening. I'm not some medieval princess, I'm-"

The godmother helplessly shrugged. "Apologies. Only one wish per customer, no refunds," she smiled, before vanishing in a puff of sparkles. Gillian fumed. Why she... well, she... oh my god, she was trapped here! In some foreign land she only had some knowledge of, to be made to do... well, god knows what!

Her anger was interrupted by a knock at the chamber door. Who was it?
