As Laura drove to the office with an unusual sense of positivity, she found the morning traffic extremely busy but she could afford to be a few minutes late so she didn't mind.
Suddenly, while traffic was even slower, Laura was contacted by a client she had to see in person, it was a very big client she couldn't afford to lose and with whom her firm had already had some problems, but she had to travel several hundred miles to do so!
"Shit" Laura thought as her car barely moved, "I can't afford to lose this client, let's go to the station."
Laura hurried to the nearest station without question, and after wasting precious time finding the right line she finally sat down.
Smoothing her clothes she set up her laptop and put on her glasses to start working and catching up, a flash crossed her mind and she immediately looked for the magic dice. She retrieved the box and placed it on the table.
"Damn I almost forgot these.." said Laura. "Can't believe I'm back in my early thirties." She thought.
As she began to work, a woman in her fifties took a seat across from her. She was dressed in a denim shirt and jeans, her figure was that of a woman who had glowed in her youth but had gained weight through numerous pregnancies and age. Her face was quite wrinkled and her hair was brown with very little gray.
Laura and the woman said hello to each other before she returned to her work.
"It's a beautiful day don't you think?"
Laura's mind was once again detached from her work.
"Yes indeed," she replied.
The woman looked at Laura which made her a little uncomfortable.
"You know, I would love to be like you, young and beautiful with a bright future."
Laura was surprised by this last sentence.
"Oh yeah? Why do you say that? Laura asked intrigued.
"Well there are many reasons for that." Answered the woman.
"Mmh...do you have regrets?"
"Oh more than you can imagine... "Said the woman with dismay. "Yes, if only I could go back, only a few years..."
Again, she had just stung Laura again, it was as if it had a connection to the dice without having one.
As time passed, the two women chatted, Laura was learning about her story and feeling more and more concerned as she shared her sense of regret in some way.
"It's really nice to chat with you, what's your name?" Asked the woman.
"Laura and you?"
"You can call me Christine, it's a pleasure to meet you!"
"So Christine, you're planning to go home to your family if I understand correctly?"
"Absolutely, away from my ex-husband and his new younger wife"
Once again Laura was a touched by Christine's speech, she kept thinking "what if she deserves to enjoy the lots more than she does?" .
"I don't want to sound intrusive, Laura, but what's in the box? Is it something precious?" Christine asked as she took the box of dice.
Laura gasped, there was nothing more dangerous than the dice being in someone else's hands. Laura had to keep them from rolling, even if she wanted to share what had happened to her with Christine she couldn't give it to her like that.
"Oh they're just dice, I like them..." lied Laura.
"Lucky dice or something, huh? Well let's see if I'm lucky..." said Christine as she opened the box and took the dice in her hand.
"Christine Williams, the spirit of youth has bonded with you. Each roll of the dice shall return more of what you have lost."
"Wait what was that?" Christine became alarmed.
Laura looked at Christine's frightened face and realized what had just happened, the dice had just bonded with her.
"Laura! Did you hear that too?" Christine asked to see if she was going crazy.
"No I didn't hear it but..."
"Laura what was that?"
"Okay Christine, I know this is going to be hard to believe but...
