They looked like nothing special. A simple bulky pair of headphones. Ryan wasn’t exactly looking for a pair when entering the store but thought that they looked nice. He looked at them for a second before grabbing them and analyzing them.
Ryan placed the headphones on his head and was immediately deafened. All he could hear were sounds coming from himself. “Oh they’re noise canceling? That’s good to know.” He couldn’t tell if anyone heard him or not, but he didn’t seem to care. He walked over to the closest mirror he could find to get a better look at himself. His reflection stared back at him while he inspected himself. He took a long look at himself in the mirror, noting his scrawny frame and messy hair. “Man, I need to clean myself up better. Oh right, the headphones. They definitely look nice and the noise cancelation is very effective.” He made stomps the floor his shoes yet heard nothing. “Still I think that they’re not a good fit on me. Maybe a different pair would-“
His monologue was interrupted by a loud beeping noise coming from the headphones. “What the?!” Ryan quickly fell to floor, curling in pain. He firmly grasped the headphones in an attempt to remove them to stop the noise, yet the beeping immediately stopped. “What just happened?” Ryan looked around while curled up on the floor, taking a moment to question what just happened. He picked himself off the floor and looked into the mirror. “Did that come from these? Well if they’re gonna make that noise then I’m sure as hell not getting them!” The headphones then beeped again. “Eh probably not. I doubt these made that noise. Probably just something in my head.” Ryan said, quickly shrugging off the previous beep as if he didn’t even hear it. “Still I should probably put these back, it’s not like I’m buying these or anything.” The headphones beeped again. Ryan didn’t even flinch. “Actually they are pretty comfortable and who knows, maybe they sound even better with some music. Yeah, I’m buying these!” With his decision made Ryan began walking to the shop’s checkout counter, not noticing that he could hear his footsteps and other customers.
Ryan approached the man behind the counter declaring proudly that he’ll buy the headphones. “Your total comes to $200.” The man said. “200? That’s an insane amount for some headphones.” Ryan couldn’t help but notice that some psychedelic music began playing from his headphones. He looked around puzzled but the headphones gave another beep and suddenly Ryan was back to normal, only focused on buying the headphones instead of the music.
“So are you buying the headphones or not?” The man asked.
“Well not for $200.” Ryan replied. The music amplified in volume as Ryan said this, though he paid it no mind. The man however seemed to pause everything he was doing for a quick moment before speaking.
“How about $100?”
“$100? That’s still more than my budget allows for.”
“How about $50?”
Ryan quickly noticed the situation and decided to push his luck.
“That’s still too much.” Ryan said smugly. The man began sweating, Ryan took notice. It’s almost as if he was trying his hardest to please Ryan. “25! No, 10!” The man yelled desperately. At this point Ryan felt that he could easily push this man around. All the while the psychedelic music was blasting in his ears but he could hear none of it. Ryan leaned toward the nervous wreck and whispered in his ear. “Free.” The man perked up with excitement. “Free. Yes free! You can have it for free!” Ryan smirked. “That’s what I like to hear.” The music stopped.
The man was practically glowing with excitement. “Thank you so much for shopping here!” He yelled. Ryan turned around and walked out of the store. “That was weird. There no reason why he should’ve done that.” Ryan shrugged it off in favor of focusing on his prize, he’s got some brand new high quality headphones.
