King or Queen?

The Lord Mayor ushers you into the chamber: a nice, airy room, lit by several large, latticed windows. You don't get much of an impression however before your eyes fall on a tall bombshell of a woman, clad in a black gown trimmed in silver. A silver circlet sits on her head, a silver signet ring adorns her right hand. The long tresses of her lustrous black hair are braided back with a ribbon; her eyes are grey, piercing, but shadowed as she turns from a window to study you.

"Your Majesty!" The Mayor bows. "She's arrived -- that is, may I present your betrothed, the Princess Aerys!"

"Y-Your Majesty?" You stammer. Hitherto unknown instinct takes over, and you curtsy, despite being completely confused. There's no-one else in the room. So this woman is... the King??? What the hell?

"Welcome to Castrumiel, Aerys." She pauses, searching your face. "Do you not... recognise me at all?"

You shake your head slowly, fear gripping you. Just what was your relationship, then? Had Aerys known this woman well? Did they call all their rulers "king" regardless of sex? How should you -- your incipient panic is derailed by the Mayor's embarrassed cough. You look at him, seeing him flushing.

"F-forgive me, Your Highness, Your Majesty... I... I couldn't bring myself to tell the Princess what had befallen you. It was too..." He wrings his hands in distress. The woman rolls her eyes.

"Gods, Leofric, you're such an idiot. No wonder Aerys looks so shocked."

You look between them. "Uhh... may I ask what happened?"

"Your Highness, this is King Morgan! I told you that something sinister was at work! I assure you he's still the man he was on the inside, but..."

The woman gestures for him to be silent.

"It happened a few nights ago. I was finishing dinner when I fell ill. Over the night, I lost my manhood, and... became a woman." She -- or he? -- sighed. "The physicians believe it was poison -- a magical venom slipped into my food or drink. We have not found any culprit. Nor have I yet decided whether I should seek a cure... or avoid any further entanglement with enchantments."

"I... see. I'm so sorry, Your Majesty." Having just lost your manhood yourself, your words are deeply sincere. The king seems to pick up on this, and his face softens a little. But he still looks troubled.

"There's no need for such formality, Aerys. It's unlike you."

Well, shit. You bite your lip. Fortunately the Mayor comes to your assistance once again.

"She's lost her memory, Majesty. She doesn't remember you at all."

The King's face draws together. You see her -- his -- slender hands clench. Gods, it's hard to think of him as a man.... You shake your head, feeling bad for questioning that when she's -- he's obviously in deep pain. He looks away for a bit, then back at you.

"Not at all?" he questions. You shake your head. "What do you remember?"

"Not... much." At least not much of your life as a princess. It worries you a bit that you can "remember" anything about it -- you're starting to worry that eventually you might lose yourself completely. But that worry's going to have to wait, you need these memories if you don't want them to suspect.

"I remember my home. I remember my parents. My... brother." Okay, that just surfaced. You'd never had any siblings on Earth. Apparently you have one now, the heir to your father's throne. "I remember... me. My name, my station." My royal manners, apparently. "That's... all, I'm afraid."

It's an accurate summary. Some vague impressions of life in Camael are emerging, but nothing definite. Your immediate family -- King Uther, Queen Marys, Prince Artanor. Maybe... yes, you're certain there's some elven ancestry in your line, though you don't really show it. In fact you think there might be some elves in Camael, a remnant from when they ruled the kingdom.

"I am... sorry." The king sighs again. His eyes become unreadable. "How did you get here, then? In such immaculate attire?"

"I... I don't..." Oh shit, he suspects... Again the Mayor supplies an answer.

"She just appeared in the market, sire. Fortunately I was there and recognised her from her portrait, otherwise there might have been a tumult."

"Very fortunate." One of the king's eyebrows has quirked slightly, but he nods. "Lord Mayor, leave us. I wish to speak with the Princess alone for a while. Roderic," this to the guard in the door, "have the maids prepare a guest room for her."

"Sire!" The guard salutes. The Mayor bows. Both men then leave, closing the door, leaving you alone with the sex-changed King.
