Chronivac Version 4.0

Mental Changes Does Not Equal Intelligence

added A year ago A

"So, if I'm to be the best human possible for Master, I need to know more about humans," Sally explained.

Jeff looked at Sally confused "Didn't the Chronivac give you that knowledge?"

Sally shook her head. "Master's machine only gave me the knowledge of how to speak and move. I mean, like, I know what a car is more clearly now, but that's only because I experienced it as a doggy."

Jeff, curious to test Sally's knowledge for himself, grabbed a notebook from his backpack, and wrote a simple math equation: 1 + 1. He hands it to Sally. "Can you solve this?"

"Solve?"

"What's the answer to this? Can you write it?"

Sally took the notebook and, remembering back to watching Jeff do his homework, she picked up the pencil. The idea of being able to hold and pick up things with her hands was novel. Sure, Sally missed her tail already, but the idea of being able to walk around on two legs really made up for that. Standing at a height of 5'7, Sally looked at the world so differently. Everything just seemed so much smaller in comparison now, specifically the ground, which felt so far away. And that was without considering the change in color. While dogs didn't see the world in black and white like many humans believed, they were still partially colorblind. Knowing there were more colors fascinated Sally.

Still, Sally couldn't linger on this fact for long. Her master had given her an order, and because of both instinct and feeling indebted to Jeff, she knew she had to follow it to the best of her ability. Sally looked over the problem carefully, but she was struggling, not fully sure what her master actually wanted or meant. Jeff could see the nervousness on Sally's face. She went through her memories again, remembering the one time that she had eaten Jeff's homework, thinking it was food. It had a, to Sally's eyes, weird symbol with two sideways lines.

"Come on Sally," Jeff encouraged. "You just have to add them together."

Sally eventually put the pieces together quite literally. Proud of her work, she handed the notebook back to Jeff. "Did I do good, Master?"

"Only if one plus one equals eleven. You just put the two 1s next to one another."

"I'm sorry. Master. I didn't mean to anger you."

"No, it's not your fault Sally. I guess the mental changes just gave you the bare minimum. Guess giving you an education was not part of the deal." Jeff scratched his chin. "I've got an idea."

Jeff guided Sally to the bathroom. "Oh look," Sally said excitedly. "My second doggy bowl."

"It's a toilet." he corrected.

Sally's goofy smile stays the same. "Yeah, that."

"Alright, Sally. I want to see if you an properly use the toilet."

"I've seen you, mama, and papa use this before. This is where you poop and pee instead of the backyard."

"Yes, that's correct."

Sally put the lid down sat on the toilet. "You and papa stand when you go most the time, but I've never seen mama stand."

"Good, that's because woman can't pee standing up."

Sally was shocked. "You mean I'll have to sit down too?" Jeff can't help but rub his neck as an answer, starting to wonder if Sally there was a way the Chronivac could help her in the knowledge department.

Either way, a few minutes later, Sally successfully used the restroom. Jeff had even gotten Sally to take a shower, who had loved the feeling of warm water pelting his skin as compared to any bath she had with the groomers. She had never noticed the way Jeff took in her human body, or how he had casually joined her in the shower to properly teach her which soaps where which. The only con of having less hair was the inconvenience of wearing clothing, which a fur coat got rid of the need for.

These tests proceeded with other things, including Sally's eating habits. While she certainly was a messy eater, part of which could be attributed to her excitement of finally able to have a full serving of ice cream rather than the sloppy seconds of licking the bowl or pouncing on whatever hit the ground, Sally confirmed she knew how to use a spoon. Eventually, Jeff concluded that Sally could with little trouble do anything that she observed her family doing, but this mainly only applied to motor functions and certain basic household tasks in the early morning routine. And he'd yet to test things like cleaning the dishes since... frankly, Jeff didn't have the mental energy to deal with the mess if Sally couldn't.

"Master, I'm happy to do what you want, but I'd like to do something, I don't know, fun, before I have to turn back."
