“Eighteen years you have walked this Earth, now this number is but ten. Each roll of the dice returns more of what you have lost.”
“Dammit,” Nicholas muttered under his breath as the golden light surrounded him and he shrank yet again. He’d overshot! “Could be worse,” he reminded himself quietly, though he cringed at his newly youthful voice. “I didn’t roll a twelve, and William’s clothes should fit me perfectly now.”
Nicholas removed the clothes he was now swimming in and got to work digging through the box of clothing belonging to William. After a few minutes of this, he’d managed to cobble together three possible outfits. One was informal, consisting of a T-shirt, shorts, and Velcro shoes. The second was more formal, consisting of a polo shirt, slacks, and nice brown shoes. And the third was actually William’s spare school uniform, which was made up of a polo shirt, jacket, tie, shorts, white socks, and nice black shoes.
On the one hand, Nicholas preferred to dress more formally. On the other hand, he was now ten, and children of that age hated dressing up for anything. If he were to dress in something he felt more comfortable in, he might attract more attention than if he wore the T-shirt.
There was also the option of the school uniform, which was more formal but still something an unaccompanied child might wear. Of course, if he wore a school uniform, there was the chance he might be mistaken for a wayward student and sent to his son’s school. After a few more moments of thought, Nicholas knew which outfit he was going to wear.
