Although you have to follow the instructions of Mary Lynn, every other woman in residence in the palace, and apparently every woman in the world, you still have independent thought. You just can't act on it. And given your situation, and your responsibility for it, you spend most of your very limited free time trying to think of ways to escape. You can't really come up with many, because you're usually assigned to be somewhere in the palace, and there are plenty of guards assigned to every exit for this exact purpose. Eventually you come up with a strategy, but it's so implausible that you don't seriously expect it ever to happen. Until one day, just when you're feeling at the end of your rope, it does.
Your assignment that morning is to clean the toilets in the women's restrooms. The less said about that, the better, but you think they intentionally make it a mess just to humiliate you. After that, you go to the kitchen to start prepping breakfast. All the women eat in one big communal room together, and one of your regular jobs is to prepare meals. The men are forced to eat dog food out of dog bowls, but again, the less said about that, the better.
Breakfast today is a big event, as Mary Lynn is rurmored to be back in town. You walk out into the breakfast room to start pouring juice, and you discover that the rumors must be true: the gun is at Mary Lynn's place at the table. It's safe there, since everyone in the palace, man and woman alike, is under strict mind control and is forbidden to touch the gun. You've thought about ways to get around that rule, but the ideas you've come up with are so far-fetched that by this point it barely even registers when you see the gun in front of you.
"Well look who it is." You turn to your right and see Mary Lynn's awful friend Amber, leaning against the wall and smoking a cigarette. She's wearing a toga like everyone in Mary Lynn's Roman-themed palace, but she still has a look of modern-day paranoia designed to cover up insecurities. Of course, you can't say anything about that now, as you are her servant for whatever she wants you to do. Today, she seems to just want to make fun of you.
"Can't say I'm too thrilled to see that you're making breakfast this morning," she says. You know, I gotta tell you, I always thought a woman's place was out of the kitchen, but we were so much better at this than you guys are." She laughs. "I wonder if I can order you to stop sucking. Hey, that's an idea." She clears her throat. "Stop cooking terribly like men always do. Do it right. Do it like a woman would." She blows smoke in your face, laughs again and walks away.
As instructed, you walk back to the kitchen. Although under mind control, you can follow orders however you'd like, so long as every instruction is followed. Here you start changing your cooking strategy on some of the courses, in hopes of coming up with something that'll taste better. But then you realize: after all this time, now's your chance.
You rush into the main dining room, where lots of men are hustling and bustling, everyone with a job to do. A few of the women are walking around chatting with each other and ogling the men, making jokes and snide remarks. You know you won't have much time to enact your plan, but you know you have to succeed.
You make a show of adjusting the place settings on each seat at the table. Eventually, you reach the seat just to the right of Mary Lynn's spot at the head of the table, which is always set for her whether she's there or not. You make a quick glance around and discover that no one seems to be watching you at this moment. You then grab the gun from its spot in front of Mary Lynn's table setting, turn it to transform, and fire at yourself. You then put the gun back where you found it and start walking away. After a few more quick glances, you see you've gotten away with your trick. You walk back into the kitchen.
The men there are all surprised to see you there. Of course they would be, as you've turned yourself into someone who no longer spends any time in the kitchen: a woman. If your order is to stop cooking terribly like men, and to start doing it like a woman would, well, this is one way to do it. "I'm here to show you how to cook right," you say. "You've been terrible lately." You go back to cooking exactly as you normally do, but now that you're female, you're doing it like a woman would. Soon, your order has been completed.
Normally, you'd walk around the palace waiting for a woman to give you another instruction. Today, you go straight to the front gates of the palace. It's a huge place, so it takes about fifteen minutes.
You see the guards at the front door and get a little nervous. They'll let any woman come and go as they please, but any man trying to escape is to be shot on sight. Nonetheless, you smile at the male guards, and they smile back. You walk through them and through the gates into the outside world. It actually worked! You're free!
You keep walking for what seems like hours, never looking back. You pass through several towns before you've calmed down enough to stop walking and take stock of your situation. First, you're a woman now. It's a strange feeling: just the same as being a guy in some ways, but completely different in others. What are you going to do with your life now? You walk by an electronics store and see Mary Lynn on TV for some reason or another, and the panic sets in again. You're still under her mind control. Once she discovers you're gone, all she has to do is take to the airwaves and order you back. There's not much you can do to escape her then.
