Faith scrolled down until she found the slider labeled Nicotine Addiction. She felt a momentary shock when she saw that the app had defaulted it to 90%! Still, she thought, it was not all that surprising. These days, she would smoke every chance she got. She could not even sit through a whole movie without taking a break in the middle.
Faith touched the screen and dragged the slider towards zero. It moved jerkily and kept slipping off her finger tip. She sighed in frustration. Was this the result of smoke residue that had built up on the screen over the years? She wiped the screen with her sleeve, but if anything this seemed to make it worse.
In desperation, she rotated her phone, turning the app to landscape mode. It didn't seem designed for this; the text now overlapped the sliders, which extended off the edge of the screen. On the plus side, the sliders now seemed to respond better to her touch.
Faith dragged the Nicotine Addiction slider to the left. The displayed value dropped, until finally it reached 0%. But the slider had not reached the end! Faith continued to swipe, and was surprised to see the percentages become negative.
This made no sense. How could someone have a negative addiction? It must be a glitch. Probably better not to mess with it, Faith thought. On the other hand, she was now ready to totally remove smoking from her life, and wasn't less addiction better?
