Remembering something she saw yesterday, Alexandra turned and headed to the kitchen. There she could see behind the countertop there was in fact a dumbwaiter. She hadn't tried it so she couldn't be sure it worked, but climbing on the countertop seemed much safer than trying to open the door and navigate the stairs.
Safer did not mean easier, pulling out and scaling drawaers took an excruciatingly long time. It didn't help that she found herself slipping due to her lack of coordination and slimy body. But eventually she finally pulled herself onto the countertop.
Crawling over to the dumbeaiter, she was relieved to find the door easily slid open. She also fit inside with space to spare. Then all she had to do was reach out and hit the down switch. She found the experience of being lowered down a dark chute more than a little disconcerting, but soon found the trip over.
Sliding open the door and crawling out, she found herself now on the counter of the daycare kitchen. The room was currently empty, but she could hear the sounds of nearby activity.
