Elliot grinned as the camera beeped and chirped, the new picture slowly sliding out from a slot on the top of the camera. It was crazy what technology could do these days, pretty soon they’d have phones small enough to carry around in your pocket and flying cars and moon bases, he thought with a grin. He’d been flipping between channels just the other day waiting for the game to come on and he’d caught the ending of a show talking about all that stuff. Pretty cool, maybe if football didn’t work out he could work on a space station or something.
“Yo, earth to Elliot! How’d the photo turn out dude?” Abruptly, Elliot snapped back to reality as he heard Rich calling his name. The two of them were football players at the local high school, and by far the two best players there. Rich had won the starting quarterback job and Elliot was the team’s best linebacker. They’d come to the mall to celebrate after they’d trounced their school’s biggest rival 28-7 in the big game a couple days ago. The entire town had been congratulating them
Plus, Elliot wanted to to test out this new camera his dad had gotten from his job. He said it was an experimental model and to be careful with it, but Elliot had assured him that they’d be really careful with it. They’d walked around aimlessly taking pictures of random things until they’d spotted the cheerleaders and come over to say hello. Of course, they’d seen the camera and almost demanded he snap a picture of them since they were using it anyway. Overall, Elliot thought as he handed over the pic for the girls to look at, he thought it had turned out quite nicely.
The four girls who’d happily greeted them were, by far, the hottest at their school. All four were dressed in the school’s cheerleading uniform—blue and white tops with long sleeves, with similarly blue and white striped skirts. “Heeey Elliot” Angela had purred, playing with her long auburn hair as the boys had grabbed chairs from a nearby table—ignoring the dejected looks on a pair of nerds who’d been heading over towards the table to try and sit there—and joined them. She and Elliot had been dating on and off for a while now, and with the make out session they’d had in Elliot’s truck right after the win it seemed like they’d be back on again.
Jennifer brushed a strand of her long blonde hair out of her face and smiled brightly. “Congrats on the great game guys! We were really cheering you on!” She added with a giggle. Tiffany rolled her eyes. “Jen, honey, they know. We’re cheerleaders” the African American girl said. She caught Rich’s eye and the two shared a knowing look. Jennifer was nice, but she wasn’t exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. Tiffany, on the other hand, was getting some of the best grades in their class and tutoring Rich in the process. Rich knew he wouldn’t have passed Algebra II without her help.
The fourth girl in the group stayed quiet. Gabriela had only recently joined the squad, her family being new in town, and she was still trying to gain more confidence. Her mom had practically forced her to go out and join the squad, saying the best way to make friends in a new town was by going out and being social, and the cheerleading squad was a great way to do it.
As the group sat and chatted, she noticed Elliot had placed the camera he’d used to take the picture down on the table. Curious, she reached over and picked it up…..
