"Eh, whatever, I'll eat this," you say, picking up some kind of weird green tortilla chip. You should have known a park like this would be run by a crazy woman! You decide that the sooner you do what she says, the sooner she'll drop this silly witch act and help you find Claire. The chip tastes kind of bland, but whatever. As soon as you've swallowed it, she starts to giggle.
"What's so funny?" you ask, offended that this adult woman is acting like a teenage prankster while you're worried about your friend.
"If you think you're big and strong now, you have no idea what you're in for!" she said knowingly.
"What's that supposed to mean, and UGH! Why are my clothes so TIGHT?!" you ask, suddenly feeling very constrained. Circe wasn't too much taller than you when you walked in, but now you notice you can easily look down on her while you're still in a seated position. "I'm, I'm getting BIGGER?" you stutter in a confused voice.
"Horses are usually quite large, darling," she points out condescendingly as your clothes start to rip. Obviously you don't really believe your turning into an animal, but you are still very frightened. Why is your body blowing up like a balloon? Did you contract some sort of swelling disease? Are you having some impossibly severe allergic reaction to the chip? You assume you need medical attention immediately, but you don't trust the woman and her guards to see that you get any!
It's only when your shoes snap and your feet are free that you get your first real evidence of what is actually happening. Your feet are long--longer and than you can possibly hope to walk on--and you can't seem to find your toes! All you can see at the end of either foot is an oddly angled joint and a hard, round object that looks like it's made of some dark, bony substance. It's almost as though each of your feet as just a single toe with an enormous toenail that looks like a, like a, like a HOOF!
"No, no!" you exclaim, pushing back your chair and trying to jump to your feet. Disturbingly, you find that you can easily place your increasing weight on your strangely shaped toenails, which clop on the floor like the hooves they are becoming! Meanwhile, rich brown fur is sprouting on your long feet and raised ankles (actually your cannons and hocks), an unsettling omen of your bestial fate.
Your ears ache for a moment, and then they start to twitch. You can't see up there, but you will soon learn to rely on the exceptional hearing provided by your swelling ears! They twist themselves into pointed mound shapes which you can easily pivot toward whatever sound catches your attention at any moment. For now, though, you're just concerned to feel your ears moving, and disoriented to hear your surroundings get crisper and more muffled each ear pivots independently. You find you can hear everything: the rough breath of the guards, the wet slurp of Circe licking her lips, the bubbles of liquid in her wine cup, and of course, the footsteps of passerby beyond the room. You even find yourself starting to realize which direction each ear is pointed in, just by whichever sounds you can hear best.
You're about to reach up and try to feel your new ears when something more extreme happens: your whole face barrels out in front of you, pushing your eyes to the side and fusing your nose and mouth into a long equine muzzle! You gasp and explore it frantically with your hands, almost dizzy from having your so much of yourself jutting out in front of you like this. Your nostrils are huge, and your eyes are pointed out toward your sides, giving you a nauseatingly wide view of the room as you wobble to adjust. Worse, your neck is getting longer, making you tower above Circe even more, but you won't be this high for long!
Your chest barrels out, and you find your fingers lengthening and fusing, just like your toes did. "I hope you won't miss having hand-eye coordination too much!" she teases, inviting an angry neigh from you. She's got to stop this! She can't just leave you to finish turning into an animal, can she?
Yes, she can. The fur is everywhere now, and you can feel long hairs starting to flap around on the back of your extended neck. You can't stay upright anymore, and your forced onto all four hooves by your new weight and skeletal structure. You rear up a few times but have to face the fact that you will be standing on four legs from now on. You're starting to panic because you can't use your human hands anymore, you're so used to being able to spread your fingers or make a fist! You're never going to do that again. You're forever left to stand with your full weight on what used to be your nails with just your flicking ears to twitch around. At least until you discover your ability to move something else.
Something funny happens at the base of your spine. Firstly, it doesn't feel like the base of your spine anymore. You can feel a whole bunch of flesh and bones hanging off of it. Secondly, whatever is hanging back there twitches around as easily as your ears do. Realizing what must have happened, you widen your eyes and look back. A tail encased in extremely long black fur is hanging off of you, just like the rear end of any other horse! There's no hint of humanity left anywhere on your body, you're a giant four-hoofed beast.
"Take him to the stable, boys, I think we'll find him useful," Circe says to her guards. "We might need to break him in a little bit, but I suspect he'll be the obedient type. After all, he ate the food with barely a question! And take care of any further meddlers you happen to find snooping around, too. We can always use more livestock, after all!"
