No Potty Training for Danny

“Now, I’m wearing the Pampers brand right now, and it’s very comfortable,” Danny said to the customer he was helping, an expecting mother. “I’ve peed myself multiple times already today and can’t even tell.”

An instinct overtook Danny. He bent his knees into a squat and began to push.

“And…you’ll see…that…it…hides…the smell…of…boom-boom,” he said in between grunts. The customer watched patiently as Danny messed himself. Finally, he finished. Danny straightened with a sigh. His diaper sagged visibly under him. There was a soft hiss as he peed himself. “It also will handle a lot of mess without leaking.”

“Is it your personal preferred brand?” the customer asked. Danny nodded.

“Yes. It’s not as leak-proof as some brands, but the comfort and fact it hides some smell counters that in my opinion.”

“I see. Thank you.”

“No problem. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to get a change.” Danny turned away and began to head for the daycare. Greg had been right. That first day when he messed himself had just been the beginning. Danny now had next to no control over when he used his diaper. His doctor said that his potty training was actually below that of a regular three-year-old, but that they should wait to start potty training him again until he was a bit older.

However, having very little potty training meant that Danny needed a lot of changes. To accommodate for this, he now had to go to the daycare to get changed and also was not allowed to wear pants over his diaper. There had been a few times where he claimed he didn’t need a change, only to leak. Not wearing pants meant that it was obvious when Danny needed a new diaper.

Danny pushed open the door of the daycare. Anna, the head worker, came over to him.

“I need a change.”

“You got it.” Anna picked Danny up and carried him over to the changing table. “Did you make any big sales today?” she asked as she changed his diaper.

“A few. The moms really like that I can demonstrate diapers for them.”

“I suppose that would be a big selling point. There aren’t a lot of toddlers who can articulate as well as you.” Anna taped a fresh diaper onto Danny. “There! All done!”

“Thanks.”

“Unfortunately, this is another bad sticker on your potty chart,” Anna said. Danny nodded sadly. When he started regularly having accidents, the daycare staff set up a potty chart for him, to keep track of how he was doing. According to his potty chart, he hadn’t had a day without wetting himself in over month, and was nearing two weeks straight of messing himself at least once at work.

“Sorry about that.”

“No, I’m sorry,” Anna said as she put another frowny face on the chart. “I hope you don’t make boom-boom in your diaper tomorrow.”

“Why?”

“Well, because of what happens if you go two weeks messing yourself every day.”

“What happens?” Danny asked.

“Kristof didn’t tell you?”

“No!”

“If you mess yourself tomorrow…”
