“We can’t leave him like that,” Rusty said.
“Look,” RK replied, “we all agreed Troy was too dangerous, SHE did us all a favor by turning HERSELF into… that.”
“I know we said we were going to get rid of him but that was just temporarily, and just into a puppy or something he could enjoy, this is too much.”
“Well that’s too bad for her, there’s nothing we can do.”
“I could use the Book of Body to turn her… him back into a man, then he could still live in my backyard but he wouldn’t have to suffer like that.”
“No,” RK said, “you don’t understand, there is nothing WE can do. That means there is nothing YOU can do and nothing I can do.”
“Let me explain,” RK continued, “let’s say you turn her in a rooster, the auditor says ‘why is there a rooster in that backyard with no hens?’ Who do you think ends up as the hens Rusty? You want to spend the rest of your life as Lemon or Cookie?”
“Oh,” Rusty replied.
“Or let’s say we turn her into a dog, at this point, the auditor might decide that she’s a breeding bitch, or a breeding stud if we make him a male. Do you know anything about dog breeding Rusty?”
“No.”
“And the auditor knows that, but maybe Clint, your neighbor, knows about dog breeding. So why are you and I, two anthros, in Clint’s breeding kennel?”
“Oh.”
“Troy did this to herself. Troy broke reality. So now Troy is going to have to be Muffin for the foreseeable future and she’s just going to have to get used to that. Anything that you or I do to improve her situation is likely to make our lives a lot worse.”
“And besides,” RK continued, “Muffin didn’t seem to mind laying those eggs before remembering Troy. In fact, she seemed downright happy to do so.”
