"...they think it was exposure to some sort of irradiation or chemical, so he was shuttled off to some hazmat facility! Can you believe that?" Mikael Yosiah, my supervisor, said with an expression of disbelief. "Luckily they don't think whatever it was is contagious, so we're in the clear."
I stumbled back to my workspace, and I wasn't sure how I made it through the day. It couldn't be, right? I mean, that was just a fluke. I couldn't have turned a human being into...no way, I was overthinking. But...wait, which book did I write that in?
Upon reaching home I sprinted to the desk and grabbed the leather-bound notebook. The one that said it could change reality, or something crazy. And sure enough, there on the first empty page were my doodles, and my handwriting. In shock, I yanked my laptop out of my bag, spilling files everywhere, and Googled the name "Aloysius Edgars." And there it was. The footage was a bit shaky and blurry, but the news report was clear. And the huge worm-like creature that was formerly a human known as Aloysius Edgars...
I managed to make it to the toilet before I retched up my stomach contents. I had just turned a human into...some creature? How horrific was that? I was supposed to be helping people, not turning them into monsters! What had I done? Wait, if I had done it, then maybe I could undo it, right? Where was that damn book?
I staggered my way back to the desk and grabbed a pen. Just as I was about to try to rectify my actions by trying to turn Edgars back into a human, something caught my eye in the news footage. The address Edgars was found after changing into a worm. It was his victim's address. And there was the victim, being wheeled to the ambulance on a stretcher. He had gone after them again. My eyes fell from the screen, only to see the papers scattered across the floor. One of the files was the evidence against Edgars.
