Tim's little house had never seemed like much before, but as he saw the ceiling receeding, he realized that it was going to get a lot bigger in the next few minutes. Messing with the chest again seemed like a very risky proposition. His best bet would be find a place to wait this out.
Shucking off the rest of his oversized clothes, he took the chest out of his bedroom to the entry / living room / dining room space. This is where Saul would expect to meet Tim in just a few minutes, so it seemed like the best place to be in case things got dicy.
He noticed his shrinkage was proceeding at a respectable clip... in the time it took him to make the decision and walk a few feet from his bedroom to the foyer, he was coming up on four feet. Setting the chest down on the coffee table / dinner table combo in the room, he settled himself on the couch. His body was starting to really come up through the neck of his T-shirt, so he took his arms out of the arm-holes and wrapped the shirt fabric in his hands, bunching it up around his neck.
As he drifted downward, he surveyed the room. It was an odd experience. Things that were farther away, like the front door, seemed to be getting even father away. They even started to take on a "looming" quality, as they seemed to get taller as well. Meanwhile, things that were close up, like his T-shirt seemed to be magnified. The texture of the fabric was getting more exaggerated and he could see the details of the thread more clearly, as if he was getting closer to it.
While he was inspecting his shirt collar, he heard the gate clanking outside. He was feeling a little vulnerable and nervous about what would happen next, but he was actually relieved that Saul would be here in another minute. He had only lost about half his size, so things weren't nearly as bad as he'd been afraid. 'Have I stopped shrinking?' he asked himself hopefully.
