Nicky planned to stay awake, but found his eyelids slowly closing. Before long, he was asleep like the rest of the children in the classroom. In his sleep, he shifted slightly, but couldn’t move much due to the bag he was still wearing on his back.
The little movement, however, was enough to knock a die loose from its case. Fast asleep, Nicky didn’t hear the voice of the dice speak.
“Six years you have walked this Earth, now this number is but five. Each roll of the dice returns more of what you have lost.” Light surrounded Nicky’s body and he shrank again. Elise, distracted by her phone, didn’t notice.
Unfortunately for Nicky, he had been a bedwetter until the age of six. The habit from before came back, and during his nap, his bladder emptied into his underwear.
Eventually, the lights turned on and Nicky, as well as everyone else, woke up. Nicky sat up, disoriented, and silently wondered why the clothes he was wearing seemed a bit looser. They still fit perfectly fine, and as such, he dismissed the observation in favor of one more distressing. There was a wet spot on the front of his pants.
Nicky was horrified. How had he sunk so low? This morning, he’d been a CEO. Now, he was a bedwetting kindergartener.
Elise was coming around to each child to check on them. Nicky’s mind raced. He only had a few moments to decide on his course of action.
