“O-Okay,” Claire said. “I’ve always been the shortest one. 5 foot zilch. I want to be taller than Daisy by a whole foot!”
Daisy blinked. She was 6’3”. That would make Claire a giant 7’3”! “Whoa, Claire!” Daisy said out loud in a near whisper, “you’ll be huge!”
“Let’s just see if it works,” Liz said, watching Claire intently. “If it does, anything is a possibility for all of us.”
Sure enough, Claire seemed to slowly stretch taller. Gazes locked on her sudden growth spurt, and all present let out low gasps of disbelief. Inches were added to her legs, arms, and torso as she sprouted up into a much taller unicorn, gaining exactly one foot on her frame. She had not entirely enlarged, just become taller.
“Fuck.” Liz uttered, thrashing her tail excitedly. “Somebody else try it! Can we all just… change… at will?”
“Easy. Easy!” Diana warned. “This is heavy stuff now. This goes beyond a mere curse. This is… magic. We had control of it before. Who’s to say that Claire doesn’t accidentally change us all?”
“Er, yeah!” Claire said, suddenly alarmed. “I just spoke what I wanted. If I say something wrong, I could affect others. That’s just scary. I don’t want that kind of responsibility!”
The mood had turned deadly serious. This was indeed a very serious twist. Jill put her head on her hands and looked suddenly nervous. “Well… we… don’t know the extent of it. Unless…” She trailed off, looking at Claire.
“W-What?” Claire said meekly, holding her long tail in her hands and sitting cross-legged.
“Unless we try something.” Jill said, sighing into her hands.
“L-Like what?” Claire stammered.
“Well,” Jill began, “it’s clear that you can change your own body as you wish. There are probably other things you can change, but for now I want to either confirm or disprove a thought I just had.”
“Where are you going with this, Jill?” Liz said testily.
“Okay. Less explaining, more action. Claire, try to change me without saying anything. Something small.”
“Oh!” Claire said suddenly, “I get it! You want to see if there are going to be the aforementioned accidents.”
“Right!” Jill said, nodding. “Now get to it!”
Claire let out a heavy breath and then closed her eyes. She opened them again. “Okay.”
Nothing happened.
The girls looked at Jill in anticipation. Nothing continued to happen. They waited a full fifteen minutes before anybody said anything.
“Anything?” Liz said suddenly.
“Er, no.” Jill replied, with some mild relief.
“I just tried to mentally shrink Jill into a foxy dolly!” Claire said proudly, with a very giggly snort.
“What?” Jill said, “Why?”
“You said do something small.” Claire laughed.
A small chuckle came from Liz, then Jennifer. In seconds, the whole group broke up in relieved and amused laughter.
“Well!” Jennifer said, “that proves that Claire can’t just change any of us with a mere thought. A good thing, too, considering what goes on in that fucked up mind of hers.”
Daisy laughed absurdly at this.
“Okay, so… that’s one unspoken fear resolved.” Diana said calmly. “But what is the extent of this magic? Do we all have it now? What are its limits?”
“I’m eager to find out!” Liz said, licking her chops.
