David lost all hope of ever becoming human again or just even male even if it would mean still being a dog. In the coming days he tried to adjust to his new life as much as possible, but his still intact human mind was never letting him go, leaving him forever stuck between two world, not fully belonging to one of them.
On Monday morning Davids male ego got a new blow. As it turns out he became pregnant. His time at the shelter didn’t go by without consequences.
“No I can’t become a mom. I just can’t. Stop this Molly!” he barked at her in panic.
But he was just ignored. He would be ignored many times the coming days, after all he was just a dog.
Days and weeks passed by. David fell into a deep depression. He just couldn’t fall back into the dog role like he did back at the shelter. Always surrounded by humans, visiting neighborhoods he remembered and seeing from time to time old school friends walking by him, some even petting him never let him fall back into the unaware dog he hoped he would become. This would have been better he thought but it never happened again. His mind was clear, witnessing everything that was happening to him. Cursing every day he bought the zipper.
He especially cursed the day he gave birth to 7 puppies. It was the most horrible experience he had to endure. Reluctantly he still took care of those puppies. Letting them suck on his nipples, knowing milk was coming out of his body. He was a mom now. Molly decided to sell his puppies as soon as they were old enough. David felt used. He didn’t care but this situation reduced him even more. He had no say in this.
His kids were sold one by one. Molly made a good amount of money selling these labradoodles.
When only one was left to sell David was to some degree happy. He could finally leave this chapter of his new life behind. As the last buyer entered Molly’s house to pick up their dog, David recognize the person entering. It was his mom. His human mom. She was coming to rescue him. Somehow she finally found out and was here to get him.
“Oh mom! It’s almost to good to be true. You finally found out and came all the way here to help me. My prayers were answered.” he barked at her.
“Hey there Princess it’s good to see you again.” his mom said as she turned back to Molly.
“So the last one is a boy right?” she asked Molly who nodded at her in reply.
She picked up the last puppy and looked at him. “I think I will call him David. I know I need to move on but I want something to always remind me of my lost son.” she said as both of them moved towards the entrance area.
It was just another cruel joke the universe was playing on him. When he already accepted the canine hell he trapped himself in, he was humiliated once again. Raising his hope only to shatter it a moment later. Hearing his name again after so long, said by his own mother was just too much.
Years went by and Molly took Princess to multiple dog shows. Princess won many awards. Her superior intellect made her one of the world most known show poodles. Molly even let her get mated with other pure breed poodles to sell her puppies at a high price. David just accepted this all. He kept reminding himself he was just a dog now, this was his role, still hating every part of it.
As Princess won another award and sat next to Molly who took the price money and trophy while smiling for the photograph, deep inside the poodles mind was just one thought.
“Life’s a bitch” David thought.
