Mike turned his attention to the gaming nerds. There looked like there were five of them - four players, two of them guys and two girls, plus the DM, a third guy. They seemed to be getting pretty into things, though they were talking quietly and Mike couldn't hear them from where he was sitting. He thought they all looked pretty ordinary, but he had a feeling that was about to change. Lifting his phone, he used the app to scan the group and then pulled up a sentence, which read: "This group of students are busy portraying their characters."
Mike knew just what to do. Grinning, he turned "portraying" to "becoming" and clicked enter, then sat back to enjoy his handiwork. At the table, the players and their DM suddenly shuddered as if a bolt of energy had just passed through them; they sat up straight and looked around at each other. Colin was kind of scrawny and had sandy blond hair; he looked around, confused. Joe was taller and heftier, with dark hair and the beginnings of a beard; he shrugged at whatever was happening and took another pull on his drink. Stacy, who had long blonde hair pulled back into a ponytail, glanced around, looking for what had caused the strange sensation, while Ashley ran a hand through her short red hair and reached for the dice, wanting to get back to the game. Dave, the DM, adjusted his glasses in annoyance; whatever that had been, it seemed to have thrown everyone off in the middle of an important combat scene.
A moment later, the changes began.
