Jack couldn't get into Jacob's apartment so she went upstairs to her own only to find that was also sealed with police tape. She could not get into either apartment. While she was considering what to do she was approached by a woman.
'Dana? Dana it's you! Your back!' Jack immediately recognised the voice. It was Mrs Melville the mother hen of the apartment block. A retired woman who made it her business to know everything about everyone in the complex whether they wanted to be acquainted with her or not.
Jack looked at the woman.
'It is you Dana! How long have you been back? I haven't seen you in years but you haven't changed at all!'
Jack figured that Dana would know who this woman was. She would also know what was going on with the police tape 'Hello Mrs Melville. I guess I am back. Whats going on? Why are these apartments off limits?'
'Oh we have had the most dramatic morning. We have had an abduction! This man came and took a woman from from Jacob's apartment. She was screaming hysterically and he just tossed her over his shoulder and took her out to a car and drove off. I called the police but they were long gone before the police arrived'
'Why have they sealed the apartments off?'
'Because Jacob is missing as well. He was here last night and I didn't see him leave in the morning but there is no sign of him. They think he might have been kidnapped as well'
'But why this apartment?'
'The kidnapper and this young girl had been hiding here. I saw them break in last night. They had a confrontation with Jacob first. I heard them demanding the whereabouts of a woman called Sharon. She must have been the woman who was with Jacob last night. I'm thinking Jacob must have been hiding her. Anyway after confronting Jacob they broke into this apartment and stayed here last night. It's rented to a young man called Jack. I don't suppose you know him. He moved in a couple of years ago when the Croxley's moved out. But that's his room there. I always thought he was a strange one. He's missing as well. I suspect he was a drug dealer and the kidnappers are his associates'
This was a lot to take in. Mrs Melville was a gossip. 'Did the police say how long this would take? I came to collect ....'
'Some detectives are coming. I gave a statement to the officers who were here earlier. They had an emergency and had to leave but told me to keep everyone away from these apartments. You can't enter your apartment until they remove that tape'
'I just want to get...'
'While we are waiting why don't you come in for a cuppa. Last I heard you had moved out west. Jacob has never gotten over you. You broke his heart. You must tell me what you have been up to'
