You couldn't believe that despite the strangeness of the situation, Karen was still being so supportive. You resolved to always be there for her, more than you had been the last few years.
You were pulled out of your thoughts as you entered your house. You needed some time on your PS4 to take your mind off your situation. As you opened the door to your bedroom, though you found a small office, with computer and the game console in the corner. You stepped into the room, looking at the empty space where your bed had once been, and the distinct lack of a wardrobe.
"Um, John, could you come in here for a moment? I think something else happened."
You walk through to Karen's room, finding that it had expanded. There were now two beds, one on each side of the room, with a bedside table shared between them, with an identical pair of everything: two hair brushes, two bottles of water. Only one alarm clock, so you must get up at the same time.
"What the hell happened?" you asked
"I don't know, but look here," Karen pulled the bedroom door in, showing the plaque that had once said 'Karen's Room'. Written in golden letters, the plaque now read 'Karen and Katie's room.'
"Katie?" you asked, trying the name out on your tongue. It felt wrong. Not wrong in that the word was taboo or sacrilege, but that it didn't belong to you. But apparently, this was your name now "What the hell is going on?"
"I don't know, John," Karen says, softly, as she pulls you into a hug. You hugged her back tightly. Partly to reassure her, partly to reassure yourself. "Come on. Mom and Dad will be home soon. We should start on dinner."
