Making their way into the dining hall, Nat and her friends could only gape in awe of the structure. Rising far overhead they could see a beautiful dome ceiling, painted to resemble the rising sky, inlined with golden leaf. Supporting the dome were a set of marble columns innately decorated with sculptures inbedded within them. Finally a massive oak table with hand carved chairs filled the space, which a magnificent meal now sat upon.
"Please be seated," Glitter stated. "And enjoy. Our cooks have worked tirelessly to complete this feast."
As the meal began, Nat was euphoric, savoring the roast turkey and fresh vegetables that the fairy queen provided. The fairies seemed to have modeled the banquet from Thanksgiving dinner, (although Nat couldn't be sure how they had managed to shrink a turkey down to fairy size). What was more amazing was learning of Queen Glitters granddaughter and only heir. "Wait she lives in the human world?!"
"Yes she does," Glitter smiled. "Thea has always had an adventurous spirit. When she became old enough, she ventured into the human world. We still keep in contact too. I always enjoy hearing stories about her friends Jon and Tyler. She also has a friend named Annie. Well, Annie isn't so much a friend. More of a rival that Thea sees as a friend."
"Why is that," Miranda asked.
"Annie is a witch," Glitter stated, Nat and her friends gasping in shock. Glitter now chuckled softly, a mischievous smile crossing her face. "Dont look so surprised. Your friends aren't the only ones with magic. I haven't had a chance to meet them yet but they sound exciting. Especially since they found genie."
"I'm sorry a genie," Rei exclaimed. "Like what is your wish my master kinda thing. That kind of genie?"
"I suppose," Glitter stated. "Although from what Thea tells me she mostly argues with Annie."
"I didn't think genies even existed," Nat stated in awe.
"You would be amazed what legends and myths are true young damphir," Glitter smiled.
As Glitter now continued to talk, Spark felt a gentle nudge on her side. Glancing over, she could now see Star motioning for her to follow. Slowly the fairies now stood, quietly making their way to the balcony to talk. The sisters taking a moment to stare up into the star filled sky. "Gorgeous night huh," Star whispered.
"Yeah I'll say," Spark replied. The two sisters simply gazing into the night sky in silence, both finally able to relax. "Here got you something," Star said quietly. Spark now glanced over, her eyes going wide at the bottle in Stars hand.
"Booze thank God," Spark exclaimed happily, taking the bottle quickly before downing a rather large swig. "Mmm Irish whiskey."
"Yeah know it's your favorite," Star smiled. Spark thanked her, slowly nursing the bottle. "You know," Spark stated. "This is going better than I thought. Still stressful though."
"Well the queen loves to entertain," Star sighed. "After Thea's mother died in childbirth it was just the two of them here. I know she gets a bit lonely with her gone."
"Yeah I can imagine," Spark replied, knowing that perhaps her own sister felt this since she had begun working with the Morelands. "Can I ask you something," Star asked. Spark now glanced towards her sister, the orange fairy now seemingly trying to work up the courage for her next question. "Yeah sure Star whats up?"
"What was it like," Star asked softly. "The dance. The rite of spring you shared with Connor?"
Spark paused, thinking back to the dance she and Connor had shared. It was odd thinking about it, considering the two of them had altered reality to put Connor in high-school as opposed to eight grade. Still, the memory itself of the two of them on the dance floor remained unchanged.
"It was beautiful," Spark answered. "And totally unexpected honestly." The two sisters now chuckled before Spark continued.
"At the time I really didn't think much of it," she said. "I knew Connor had a crush on me in human form, thats why I went to the dance. When the song hit the two of us just got real quiet. Just standing in the middle of the dance floor, just holding one another as we swayed softly to the music. I didn't realize it at the time but it was there that I fell in love with him."
Star smiled, her eyes appearing daml at her sisters explanation. "That's beautiful," she smiled. "A little cheesy but beautiful."
"Oh ha ha dust head," Spark laughed, playfully pushing her sister. "Just wait til it happens to you." The two sister now paused once more, Spark slowly turning to face her sister.
"Can I ask you something Star? When I do get married would you be my maid of honor?"
"Me," Star gasped. "Why?"
"Cause your my sister dope," Spark smiled. "And yeah I know we argue alot but I've always felt like we were the closest." Star paused, a tear leaking out of one of her eyes as she now hugged her sister tightly.
"I always hoped we were," Star sniffed. "But I thought you hated me most of the time."
"Of course not," Spark soothed. "I love you Star. I always respected you. Looked up to you. I'm mean when we were kids we always got in a ton of trouble together. We've always been close. You know me though, I'm, well, kind of....."
"A bitch," Star grinned.
"Yeah that," Spark smirked. "So what do you say? Will you please be my maid of honor?"
"I'd want nothing more," Star sighed, squeezing her sister tightly. "Thank you Spark." The sisters now wiping their eyes before gazing out once more into the evening sky.
"Thanks sis," Spark stated. "I was worried I was going to have Midna as my maid of honor."
"Oh my go can you imagine," Star laughed. "I love that girl but WOW she is such a ditz sometimes! Remember that time she blew up the garage while working on her school project?"
"I was thinking about all those mornings where she would trip over nothing," Spark laughed. "Upstairs, downstairs, hell I remember that time she walked us to school and walked dead ass into a light post. A freaking light post!"
"Not to mention that time she got conned out of a bag of gold by a street hustling goblin," Star added. Spark howled with laughter, wiping her eyes as she grasped her sides.
"Oh my God I had almost forgotten about that one," she laughed. "Remember we kept telling her 3 card monty is a scam?"
"And she kept insisting it was a run of bad luck," Star finished, her own eyes now tearing up from the hilarious memory.
"Then we chased down the goblin and beat him up," Spark smiled.
"Yeah no one takes advantage of our sister," Star replied proudly. The sisters now gazed at one another, continuing to laugh as they reminisced. "Glad you came to visit Spark I missed you."
"Me too Star," Spark said warmly, taking another swig of whiskey. "Me too."
