Jack was escorted back into Jacob's apartment. The police officers thought she was Jacob's wife Dana. Inside the apartment were the forensics squad apparently collecting DNA samples and finger prints. Jack had her prints taken and also had to provide a DNA sample.
Jack wasn't allowed into Jacob's bedroom or the lounge where the police were working but was able to enter the other rooms in the apartment. In the second bedroom she discovered a poster sized photo of Dana and Jacob presumably at their wedding. Dana was in a white dress and a much younger looking Jacob in a suit. Jacob had certainly been a lot slimmer when that photo had been taken.
Jack opened a wardrobe and found a colourful collection of woman's clothes. They must be Dana's. Jack was certainly unaware that Jacob had ever had another girlfriend, he had been single for the two years that Jack had lived in the complex. But then again Jack now knew from personal experience that Jacob was an accomplished lover. There was a lot about the man that Jack did not know.
When Jack had fled the apartment earlier in the day she had been in bare feet. Remembering the strange look Mrs Melville had given her, she searched the bottom of the wardrobe for shoes that might fit her. She found half a dozen pairs. Unfortunately 4 were stiletto heels. Jack ruled out wearing those immediately. The other pairs were rather fancy women's sandals, at least the heels were only 2 inches. Jack settled for a white pair. Unsurprisingly they fit perfectly.
Jack then had a look through the clothes in the wardrobe. They were not casual clothes. They seemed to be a collection of dresses that a woman might wear to a wedding. There were no jeans or plain shirts, just dresses. In the drawers was a collection of rather fancy lingerie. Perhaps Jacob had discarded Dana's plainer clothes and only kept her fancy stuff? Or perhaps the plain everyday clothes were in another wardrobe elsewhere?
Jack then spent some time examining herself in a dressing table mirror. She had not really had a chance to look at her knew self thoroughly before this. She was certainly a good looking woman. Her reflection reminded Jack of the movie star Jennifer Lawrence. Perhaps her face was a bit narrower and her hair although blonde had a distinct reddish tinge. Jack decided she was now a strawberry blonde. Mind you her hair was currently rather mussed,
In the dressing table drawers Jack found a collection of makeup items, perfumes and other unknown potions. It was hard to fathom that Jacob had retained all these items for the 8 years that Dana had been absent. It was almost as if this room was a shrine to his once wife. Jack brushed the hair to make it neat.
She returned to the lounge and immediately caught the attention of the detective who had questioned her earlier. 'How much longer will you be?' she asked.
'We are finished here. You can have your apartment back. We will probably be in the other apartment for the rest of the day'
'Apartment 31?'
'Yes. Did you know the resident of that apartment? We have been told he was a suspicious character'
'I don't think Jack was suspicious at all. He seemed a lovely young man to me. Don't believe everything Mrs Melville tells you'
'So you did know this Jack character'
'Well yes I suppose I did. He was a nice guy. No involvement with drugs or anything illegal'
'Would you describe him as a ladies man?'
'What do you mean?'
'We are working on the theory that he upset the wrong husband and has either gone into hiding or is the victim of fowl play. When was the last time you saw him?'
