Things had certainly changed for Jeff in just the course of a school day.
When Jeff had woken up and first downloaded the Chronovac, he had been just another high school guy. A face in the crowd with several large, intimidating teachers who made life harder than it needed to be.
Now, Jeff found himself with a little brother and group of first graders under his supervision. If you had told him that five intimidating adults would have been reduced to a group of small children, he would have thought you were insane. Taking a breath, he now glanced towards the quartet, a small smile spreading across his face.
The kids seemed amazingly happy, each of them now playing a game or watching t.v. Ryan, the former intimidating Coach Huff, was a small energetic boy. Jeff amazed at how sweet natured the boy was. Still, Ryan was high spirited, the boy wanting to run and play with reckless abandon.
By his side was Jeff's newly adopted brother Tommy. The former mountain of a man now a painfully shy boy. As an adult Tom hadn't been as mean as the others, yet it surprised Jeff how withdrawn the boy was. Tommy and Ryan it appeared were joined at the hip. The two boys pushing the limits with what they could do. Still though, they were good kids. Their antics never malicious in nature. Besides they had someone to reign in their wilder tendencies.
Jane, the former Ms. Warner, as an adult had been a cruel and bitter woman. Now reduced to a child of 6, she was a bit of a mother hen. Confident and unafraid to voice her opinion when something wasn't right. The girl kept both Tommy and Ryan in line, while maintaining a sweet and good natured relationship with them.
By Janes side was Lizzie, the former Miss Wolf. Lizzie was a bit silly, trying to make others smile with jokes only children would find entertaining. While she and Jane were good friends, Jeff could plainly see the girls heart belonged to Tommy.
Lizzies crush was obvious, except to Tommy. The red headed girl blushing when she talked with Tommy, often times drawing him pictures or telling her latest joke. Tommy, while friendly with Lizzie, appeared to have no clue that the girl was head over heels for him. Jeff now made a note to have a talk with his little brother later and try to build up his confidence. As satisfied with the transformations their was one child that worried Jeff.
Harry, the former Assistant Principal Swift, irked Jeff more than he should of. Despite being only 6 the boy had a penchant for finding trouble. Harry always seemed to rope both Ryan and Tommy into more dangerous or destructive activities. Tbis in turn led him to butting heads with Jane. The girl trying to keep her friends out of serious trouble. Jeff frowned as he now watched both Harry and Jane argue. Harry was a bit of a brat, Jeff worrying that he was only a short few years away from either being a bully or a juvenile delinquent. Either way, Jeff worried about Tommy whenever Harry was around.
This led to an interesting thought by Jeff. Harry had been dealt kind if a raw deal. Both his parents traveled often, leaving the boy in the care of others. Despite Jeff's best efforts Harry appeared ruined. But, what if Harry was younger, perhaps a preschooler. Would being that young, surrounded by positive role models shape the boy differently?
Jeff rubbed his chin as he turned the idea over in his head. Considering Harry would be staying with him until his parents returned, it would give him an opportunity to try. Although Jeff wondered when he would have the time considering he had a 500 word essay to write.
A smirk now crossed Jeff's face as he thought of Mrs. Evans. He understood why she had done what she did, he agreed with her to some extent. Still, it meant having to do research on a paper over spring break. What if Jeff were to send Mrs. Evans back to first grade as well when school was back in session? He had to admit it had been fascinating watching each of the teachers regress. Each one had been unique in its own way, Jeff curious what further ones would look like.
If he couldn't wait hough, Jeff realized he had neighbors he could test the Chronovac on. Jeff recalled their were several nasty neighbors close by. Maybe they would benefit from a do over like these five.
As Jeff now watched the energetic first graders play, he wondered what his next move should be.
