An adult gentleman volunteers early. He approaches the office.
“Hello sir. How can I help you?”
“I was wondering if I could volunteer early?”
“Sure thing. Any idea what you’d like to be?”
“African Grey?”
“Smart bird, long life, can talk, probably going to be popular. Let’s see if it is.”
The Secretary scrolls through a shared excel spreadsheet.
“It’s available. We can squeeze you in now. We should have an opening in around 15 minutes. In the meantime please look through this book and fill out this form.”
He sits down and tries to fill in the form. A legal memo ensuring he understands this is one way, and considering matter cannot be created or destroyed the transformation will turn him into a younger or smaller version of the chosen form to match the mass of the one being transformed.
He thinks about that for a few minutes after signing. The Doctor soon calls you in.
The hallway seems divide based on the users choice. Inanimate, reptile and amphibian, plants and fungus, birds and mammals,, water based, deep ocean, and insects, bugs, and arthropods.
He follows the hall to birds and mammals to keep the doctor. A handshake precedes introductions and sitting down. They give him a safety brief around risks or possible complications, possible symptoms, the time duration of the transformation, and the feelings that can occur. They offer a male or female form, and that he will be turned into multiple fertilized eggs of subtly different sizes based on his mass. Essentially converting his mass into fertilized bird eggs. From there the eggs will be hatched and his preferences will become a conscience for, and subconscious template of likes and dislikes for, the new bird hatchlings. It is uncertain what happens to the memories but they probably get destroyed or suppressed.
They offered a choice of arm and a chance for last minute requests, note making, or phone call. He opts to write a note and call his family to tell them what is happening and offer a last good-bye. Tears are exchanged by both sides.
After the call he is given his shot, and hooked up to an iv machine with morphine to fill any uncomfortable or painful side effects.
Over the next day a white coating covered the new unconscious man, encasing him in a calcium cocoon with an iv jutting out. Inside a metamorphosis was occurring where the limbs slowly became eggs, and then the remainder. As the head became an egg the main organs were harvested for the hospital and the spine and ribs removed. Without the head the body would shut down, and without the organs the brain would shut down. So the hospital tried to minimize damages.
The following day where once was a human adult man was now a large number of African Grey Parrot Eggs that were to be taken to be raised by other African Grey birds, either natural or other volunteers.
