Once the garbage was collected, Brad did the best he could to not get crushed as more garbage kept being added to the cavernous, smelly interior of the truck. He wasn't sure how much time had passed as the truck continued its collection route.
The shrill beeps and the grinding sound of the enormous truck's brakes interrupted Brad's feasting on some particularly succulent but rotting garbage. Testing his wings, he discovered they functioned again. He zipped upward and toward a bright bar of light toward the rear of the truck's cavernous holding area.
Brad flew out the back of the truck, just as a hissing noise announced the truck's departure. The tiny unnoticed hitchhiker was left stranded, not that he really wanted to go back inside the garbage truck with its piles of oozing debris and plastic bags of discarded refuge. His tiny eyes swiveled on a shockingly enormous world. Green fields, enormous structures bigger than buildings, a river of pavement, and giant people and their dogs, everywhere he looked!
Brad veered out of the path off an oncoming gigantic man leading his large dog on a leash. His helter-skelter flight ended near a large sign with lettering that read "Welcome to Dolores Park."
He knew it well, but now everything looked different, otherworldly in sheer immensity.
He and Mark came here often... for walks, picnics, just to enjoy some hot guy viewing.
But he was also miles from home, and still trapped as a tiny, insignificant insect.
What should he do now? Should he try to get home?
For the moment, he flew to a park bench and alighted on the top wooden support forming the back of the bench.
The prospect of trying to get home daunted him, and not the least because he faced severe odds just surviving. There must be countless perils facing a tiny bug like him.
