Adam made it to his room and dropped the bag his mum had given him to carry up just inside the door while he looked around in wonder.
"Holy freaking shit," he mumbled, before hastily turning to close the door behind him. He'd been chastised once already for similar language, and didn't want to chance his mother hearing him again as he reconciled his new reality with the old.
Where he'd once had band posters and a guitar mounted on the wall to the left, there was now a huge jungle mural depicting ancient dinosaurs grazing and flying through a painted sky. A gray bean bag rested in front of the scene next to a small bookshelf containing what looked to be an entire library's worth of picture books about dinosaurs, as well as some apparently well-loved plastic figurines - multiple T-Rexes and Velociraptors as well as a Stegosaurus and Triceratops... even a Pterodactyl with its wings spread wide perched atop the edge as if about to leap off and take flight.
Straight ahead, where his double-bed had been just this morning, was instead an incredible lofted bunk-style bed sideways against the wall, the lower portion enclosed in tent canvas pattered to look like rock, giving him a cave-like fort under his bed. Glancing inside he was unsurprised to find even more dinosaur figurines - a Dilophosaurus with it's flared neck frills and a 2-foot-tall long-necked Apatosaurus. Adam shook his head, unsure of how he even knew the names of so many dinosaurs at this age.
A two-tiered dresser was against the third wall next to the window, but Adam didn't inspect too closely as he had a sneaking suspicion it had once doubled as a changing table. Thank goodness Coral had made him at least 5-years-old and he wasn't having to experience the indignity of diapers again!
Thinking of Coral and her magical device, he was just beginning to wonder where she was when his door burst open and his now-older sibling entered.
"You are NOT going to believe what I've done, little brother." Coral whispered giddily, eyes sparkling with mischief.
