Tossing a quarter onto the bar, the boy asked the counter man for a "weight" smoothie.
"Coming up!" the man said, moving over to his mixing equipment.
He poured a number of completely unidentifiable ingredients into a blender, ran it for a minute or so, then shook the entire concoction and poured it into a tall glass. He added a bright orange bendy straw with a flourish, and handed it to the boy, who took it with a grin.
Carrying it over to a booth, the boy sat down to drink. The flavor was strange, and also entirely unidentifiable. But it was good, he decided. Listening to the soft music playing, and watching the cars and people pass by outside the large windows on the front of the store, he eventually finished it off.
He got up to return the glass to the man up front, but when he stood up, he felt funny, like he could barely stay standing. After a moment of trying to support himself on the tabletop, the feeling intensified, causing him to collapse!
The boy tried to get up, but couldn't. He could barely lift his arms, much less stand! His breathing was labored too, and his head was pounding. He didn't understand what could have happened at all.
And he probably never would either. He was only 13, after all, and even the best scientists would have difficulty understanding the quantum effect which had caused the otherwise normal atomic structure of the young boy's body to interact with the Earth's gravity at an ever increasing amount!
