You ended up in the bathroom. There the fat guy brushed your hair until it looked neat and applied make-up from the handbag to your face. In the mirror Christine looked back at you.
You said to the fat dude with Christine’s voice ‘If you are planning to come to this rehearsal – and I think I need you there, we need to find you something to wear’
The best you could find from your father’s wardrobe was some boxer shorts, some elastic-waisted track pants and a t-shirt. The clothes were tight on him but they were better than the gown. Fortunately, he had the same shoe size as your brother.
You then made lunches, in the kitchen. You found you could not eat all what you had made for yourself, over estimating your appetite, however the fat dude was only too happy to consume your left overs.
Over lunch you discussed tactics.
‘How about I say I’m your cousin from interstate. And that you are showing me around. I’m sure they won’t mind me watching the rehearsal. You can call me Ricky’
‘As good as any name’ you reply
‘And you are sure Ricky doesn’t live in this town?’
‘You have a New York accent. I guess that’s where he is from. He got off where the connecting bus to the airport leaves from. Besides if you do run into him just act surprised that you have a doppelganger. You claim to be an actress’
‘I suppose. Can you just repeat my line one more time’ he was getting nervous about you fluffing her lines.
‘In the first scene all I have to do is to pretend to be doing the Queens hair and reply ‘Yes Madam’ when the Queen addresses me. Then I giggle when the other Lady in waiting makes a joke and say ‘Someone is coming’ when I hear horses. Then I scurry and help the queen flee the room’
‘And the other scene?’
‘I don’t say anything. I am hiding in a cupboard wardrobe with the Queen, the soldiers find us and drag me out. I try and resist. They hit me and I pretend I am unconscious. I flop as they carry me from the room’
The fat guy nodded approval
