In the world their are many large cave systems that have entire ecosystems in them. Many of these cave, cave networks and ecosystem remain unexplored. This is the story of one expedition to discover the hidden world of one of these mysterious ecosystem's.
Expedition Eve Team:
Position: Name (age, gender)
Lead researcher: Dr. Ria (35,F)
Lead cave diver: Owen (32,M)
Research assistants: Gabriel (27,M), Talia (27,F), Rita (22,F)
Cave diver assistants: Kyle (23,M), Danny (24,M), Chad (26,Trans F), Selena (20,F), Tom (29,M), Frank (34,Trans M)
The cave diver's will help guide the researchers to a stable underground site and help them get settled in, the cave divers will then leave and come every 3 days to check on the research team and bring food, as well as anything they ask for/require.
Day 1 start 8:00am
The team set out to enter the cave system and try to reach the hidden ecosystem they had found via drones. The research team was in the middle of the pack as the spelunkers helped them to navigate the cave networks. They had to do some wall climbing, but after a 14 hours they manage to reach the place were they had spotted an undiscovered plant species.
The team set up the base camp for the researchers.
Day 4 6:23pm
Dr. Ria, Talia, Gabriel, and Rita have been monitoring the newly discovered plant species from afar, so as to not contaminant and potentially kill the plant.
The plant looks like a large bioluminescent flower with vines coming out from the receptacle. It has large sepal's that cover the lower half of the plant. What was the most interesting to the research team was the fact that the plant didn't have any pistils or stamens like a normal flower, instead it had a massive, semi-translucent pod.
The pod appeared to be comprised of 4 semi-translucent leaves. The edge of the leaves were green, helping the researchers to identify the pod was made out of 4 leaves. The veins of the leaves were also visible.
The research team was very interested in the fact that the plant was overall green, except the petals since their was no source of sunlight for the plant to absorb and produce green chlorophyll.
The team learned that the plant acts like one of the many fly-trap species in the world and eats the insects that enter the pod. The team also observed many skeletons of small cave dwelling mammals near the sea of vines surrounding the plant.
Day 5 7:13am
Dr. Ria decided to send Gabriel to approach the plant to study it closer. One of the reasons he was chosen was that he was the only guy of the research team.
Gabriel approached the plant to gather samples first from the vines, then he crept closer to get samples from the base of the plant. The last sample he needed to collect was from inside the massive pod.
As he was pulling his arm out, he felt the leaves of the pod tighten around his arm causing him discomfort and making hard to pull his arm free.
It took only a few seconds for him to find himself inside the pod of the plant. He couldn't recall how, but the cameras they had set up would have caught what had happen.
He tried to push the leaves of the pod apart but found them stronger then him. He saw the rest of the research team make their way to him. Talia and Rita attempted to open the pod leaves but like him found no success.
Dr. Ria ordered them to stop. It was clear to Gabriel that she was more then willing to sacrifice him to preserve the plant so she could study it more.
