Jeff woke up the next morning after a good night's sleep. He could have gone out and partied, as he had been invited to several by people who didn't know their friend Emily was really her little brother Jeff, in her body now and living her life. But Jeff knew that track was really important to Emily, so he wanted to make her last meet of the season one where he tried his best to live up to Emily's reputation. Besides, Emily was hot, popular, and about to head to college. Jeff knew he would have plenty of opportunities to party in her body.
Unfortunately, the one thing Jeff didn't know how to do was win a track meet. It's not like he paid that much attention to what his sister was doing athletically. He was pretty sure Emily ran the medium-length races, like the 800-meter and the mile. He knew there was only one meet left in the season, and on some level it didn't mattered, but he still didn't want to look like a screwup in front of everyone, especially since these people probably expected more from Emily. As he put on one of her sports bras and the track shorts so brief they might as well be a second layer of underwear, Jeff figured he'd just do his best and suffer the consequences.
Then he remembered the Chronivac.
Jeff went over to Emily's computer, where the Chronivac had been plugged in, unused for the week or so since he had switched bodies with her. He fired up the machine and everything looked normal. He went to the Chronivac's entry for himself, now showing all the features of his sister Emily, and he decided to make an addition under Special Features: "Able to run faster than any woman in the world." He sat back for a moment to wonder if he was doing it right.
"Emily! Come on, you don't want to be late!" he heard his mother calling from downstairs. His mom still didn't know that Jeff had taken over her body for two weeks when his parents were off on vacation, before he transformed into Emily, and he intended to keep it that way. Without any time left, he hit ENTER.
For a brief moment, Jeff felt an intense, wrenching pain that made him double over and gasp out loudly enough that he was worried his mom heard him. After a few seconds, though, he was able to stand up, and he just felt ... better. Stronger, fitter, and more lithe. Even breathing felt better. Jeff realized the Chronivac must have had its effect.
From there, everything was easy. Jeff went to the meet and acted like he knew what he was doing, and fortunately he was able to catch on enough to glean where he was supposed to be at all times. As he had guessed, he was running the 800-meter and the mile.
He set the world record in both.
The reaction from the crowd, the officials, the competitors, and his own coaches was utter shock. To Jeff, he just felt like he was running normally, but everyone just fell behind him early in each race, and he never looked back. After crossing the finish line in the 800, there was a disorienting silence, but once the crowd realized what had happened, everyone erupted in cheers and his teammates mobbed him. When it was time for the mile, everyone paid close attention to the race. Jeff was nervous about whether he could do it again, but he ran as hard as he could and got the same result. This time, his teammates lifted him up and carried him off the track. Jeff's performance was so strong that the track team, about to finish up a mediocre season, had now qualified for the state championships.
Jeff couldn't help but love it. The Chronivac was even more useful than he thought.
