The State of the Kingdom and Plans for the Queen's Marriage

added by Mexico 10 months ago A O

The transformation that Beth had forced upon her people was seen as deeply humiliating by every elf in the kingdom,
though this time, the resentment of most people wasn't aimed at the queen, who was now permanently stuck as a sow woman due to the poison, but rather at the knights that had tried to assassinate the queen and the nobles backing them.
Most of the acts that the queen was hated for were done in retaliation, so why did they hate their queen,
rather than the constant stream of assassins masquerading as 'heroes'?
Of course, this drastic change in public sentiment was mostly caused by Beth, who was furious at the poisoning.
If she had some way of knowing who was responsible behind the scenes or who had provided them with such a powerful poison,
then they would have already shared the same fate as the knights, but now the only solution to her was to make everyone suffer.
Even the remaining Knights were now angry at the nobles behind the coup for hiding behind their comrades,
rather than Beth, who turned them into boar men and their precious 'comrades' into sows.
A large part of why Beth could so easily influence the people was because they still had hope of regaining their original shape,
while Beth was forever stuck as a sow on two legs, a fate worse than death in the eyes of the prideful elves.
They believed that the queen would, perhaps, take pity on them in a decade or two, while others hoped to win her favor to be restored.

All of this meant that the nobles could no longer directly attack Beth, as that would likely result in a lynch mob knocking at their doors,
hoping to appease the queen.
They were stuck as swine and could not even retaliate against the one who transformed them.
Even the civilians found it hard to bear the humiliation and needed a target to direct their hatred towards,
it could only be imagined how much the nobility, who put large emphasis on the purity of their eleven bloodline, now loathed queen Beth.
They no longer wished to take the throne, they simply wanted to see her humiliated, reduced to something that would not dare call itself their equal. Of course not every noble thought this way, some tried to curry favour with Beth, hoping she would show mercy,
while many shut themselves away in their mansions, unwilling to be seen in their state.
A very small minority even reveled in their new, obscene forms; it was generally believed that they had lost their sanity from the shock.
But those that wished for revenge against the queen were by no means a small group.
In fact, many of the kingdom's most influential nobles were part of this faction.
One plan they had proposed was to convince Beth to marry and have that person undermine her, slowly crushing her confidence,
until they could turn her into little more than a breeder, to preserve her exceptionally pure bloodline,
but that plan was abandoned, when the noble that provided the poison explained how it functioned.
It was not a transformation, like the one Beth had cast over the kingdom, but rather a type of corruption,
that had even tainted her bloodline. Had they been successful, then she would have turned from the most pure blooded elf into the most pure blooded sow, but the change was incomplete and, while her bloodline was as powerful as ever, it was also forever tainted.
While she would likely give birth to children with incredible power and potential, her bloodline was now considered worthless to the elven nobility that valued purity above everything else.
Tainting a bloodline was considered such a severe thing that a few nobles even stepped back, thinking that the revenge had gone far enough, but most remained, and the topic of marriage, combined with her now worthless bloodline gave them an idea.
It was something that they considered truly humiliating, enough so to bring the queen low and make it clear that she was no longer an elf.
They considered her to be less than them now and they wanted her to feel the same.
