Fortunately the room was empty. Jessie pleaded with her Mom in Aaron's whiny voice. 'Mom! listen to me! I'm Jessie! It's this ring!'
'Aaron I will have none of this! You will stay in your room until I have dinner ready! I'm going to talk to your father' Then she realised what Aaron had said. 'Why do you have Jessie's new ring? You mustn't take your sister's belongings! She only bought that today. Give it to me me right now!'
'But Mom! I am Jessie. You have to believe me! The ring is magic, It changed me into Aaron. Let me show you!'
"This is total nonsense Aaron! Cease this fantasy at once! I am really getting cross now! Give me that ring!'
Jessie reluctantly took the ring off her finger. She realised it must have shrunk when she had changed. She handed it to her mother but couldn't help but say 'I dare say the real Aaron is still outside playing. You have a look and then you will believe me'
Angela took the ring and left the room. She was angry. What game was Aaron playing at with this nonsense? She took the ring back to Jessie's room and placed it on her daughter's dressing table. She also picked up Jessie's clothes that Aaron had been playing with and put them in Jessie's wash basket. They were the clothes that Jessie had worn when they had gone shopping. Where was the girl anyway? She needed some help in the kitchen. Why had she changed her clothes? She did not recall Jessie saying she was going out tonight. She also wondered whether it was prudent to let Jessie know what she had caught Aaron doing. What punishment should she implement? She decided it would be best to discuss things with Brendan. He might have insights into Aaron's thinking. Angela certainly didn't.
Angela returned to the kitchen. There was no sign of Jessie either there or in the lounge. Perhaps she was outside. She could hear someone shooting hoops. She had thought that had been Aaron but it must be Jessie. She went out to fetch her.
She stopped in her tracks. It was Aaron was plying with his basketball. 'Aaron! What do you think you are doing? I told you to stay in your room!'
The boy stopped in his tracks with an innocent look on his face. 'Mom? I was just shooting hoops'
'I told you not 5 minutes ago to stay in your room until dinner. Why are you disobeying me? Where is your sister by the way?'
'Sorry Mom. I don't recall you telling me that. Did I do something wrong? As for Jessie I think she is in her room'
That was when Angela realised Aaron was wearing totally different clothes to 5 minutes ago. The same clothes he had been wearing when they were shopping. Things didn't add up. 'Wait! Have you been out here since we got home?'
'Yes' the boy answered.
'Er.... Wait here. I need to check something out'
Aaron looked totally befuddled. What was Mom talking about? Eventually he picked up his basketball. Angela meanwhile returned inside and went straight to Aaron's room. She opened the door to find another Aaron in the room.
This boy told her 'Now do you believe me?'
