Animalia Magazine: Happy Halloween Edition

added by makutamon 10 months ago O

The Halloween Issue of Animalia Magazine was considered a good preview of Spookyville 2022 in many ways. Its primary feature was a pull-out (in the physical copy) map of Spookyville's special events, as well as a number of sub-articles that talked about the inspiration behind the areas, numbered for ease of access.

---

One unexpected article talked about the Porsche 550 Spyder that had been found in Dino City during Easter. What it mainly talked about was the myth/urban legend about how, after James Dean died, the working parts of his car were sold off to replace parts in other Porsches, only for them to be involved in dangerous, and often fatal accidents. Some on the comments on the Digital Edition even made comparisons to Christie, the namesake car from the Stephen King movie.

What was probably the most interesting fact was that Alec Guiness, the man who played Obi-Wan in the original Star Wars trilogy, had talked to James Dean exactly seven days before the accident, telling him, "If you get in that car, you will be found dead in it by this time next week.". Some other comments suggested that this was the reason why George Lucas gave him the part in the first place, using some Jedi techniques to see the future.

---

Another article, called Spookyville Around the World, talked about the various ways the different colonies would be celebrating Halloween. While most were almost certainly already established, there were a few that were planned for future events and shaped by recent discoveries. Vilcabamba would certainly qualify for one of these, especially since the discovery of the cave that seemed to match the Mesoamerican Myth of the underworld. While nothing was pinned down, there were already internet rumors that were saying that Halloween in Vilcabamba would involve a "crossover" between the Mesoamerican underworld and Dante's Inferno, though the only things that the two had in common was that they both had nine layers and were each viewed as realms of terrible suffering.

---

There was also an article that talked about "traditions" of Halloween, which mainly talked about how certain things started, whether it was symbols, figures, or superstitions associated with Halloween, and whether or not they were done in this modern age. One best example was that the origin of the phrase "trick or treat" was because, in the olden days, children were expected to put on a performance before receiving any candy, which was no longer practiced in this day and age, much to the relief of many children.

---

A final article talked about the colony in Scotland, which had had interest boosted because of the two Albino foxes that had arrived from Ukraine. While the overall focus would be on Fantasy/Medieval Europe, there would be plenty of "modern conveniences" to prevent it from taking away all the fun.
