The church would have collapsed that day due to Beth's fury, had she not left immediately.
She called for officials the next day to have the marriage annulled, and that was when the nobles sprung their trap.
Or rather, Beth was informed of the trap had already been sprung.
Her divorce had just been confirmed, when magic started swirling around Beth, making her fall forward, as her spine adjusted,
her fingers turning into trotters, and her proportions shifted, unil she was no longer a pig woman, but a full sow.
The officials, none of whom were aware of the plot against the queen, immediately started panicking.
"Uuuuh, wha-?" "Wait, what if... quickly, bring the marriage contract!"
One official, a wizened, old judge, more than five hundred years old, kept his composure and called for the contract to be brought.
He had much experience with magically enforced contracts, but had negelected to look at it in advance,
as he had not expected for the queen to call for a divorce, had there been a clause intended to discourage her doing so.
Clearly he had been mistaken in that assumption.
The contract was delivered to him within minutes. and he managed to quickly find the trap that had been set against queen Beth.
"...Should the marriage be annulled by either party before upholding their end of the contract, then said party will have to live with,
and according to the wishes of, the other party, until the requirements outlined in this contract are fulfilled."
The old judge read the section of the contract aloud, causing the faces of a few of the other officials to pale.
"Huh? What does that-" A significantly less competent man, who gained his position due to bribes and his subservience to Beth,
was about to ask the old judge to explain, when someone he'd had business dealings with in the past put,
interrupted him by putting a hand on his shoulder and whispered into his ear, while the judge continued speaking.
"Your majesty, i am sorry to inform you, but now that things have progressed to this point, there may be no other way left,
than to uphold your half of the contract. As your majesty likely knows, if a magical contract is broken, the consequences can be..."
He stopped and adjusted the collar of his robe. "...Quite gruesome."
The old judge cleared his throat, before proceeding. "The only other ways left to annul the contract would be to get the other party to agree,
to summon an entity with power over contracts and prove that there was deception involved..." He hesitated.
"Or to claim that her majesty is not 'queen Beth', but rather a simple pig, thereby freeing the 'pig' from the contract signed by 'queen Beth'."
There was some unrest in the room at the judge's words, but it quickly quieted down, as everyone was staring at Beth,
waiting to hear what she would choose to do.
