Hungry like the fox

added by Draemon 17 years ago A

It's not even mid-morning and you're already exhausted. Dealing with the self-absorbed lupine is frustrating enough without being hungry, and you've been hungry for days now. You really have as much right to be here as she does, but Ms. Franklin might just be psychotic enough to try eating you.

Clothing and shelter somewhat taken care of, and not much to do about rescue, you decide to focus on the food situation. The cabin's meadow is full of plants, but besides a few berries there's nothing you can eat. You don't even know if your fox anatomy can survive on berries alone. You sense the chattering of field mice and get as close to the sound as you can without disturbing the grass. You use your four legs to spring yourself into the air and dive bomb head first into a petrified mouse. It dies instantly, and your feet land before your nose can touch the ground. "That was really cool" you think to yourself. Unfortunately what would be a decent snack for a regular fox is barely a morsel for a hundred pound five foot fox man. No, to survive out here you'll need to a much larger food source.

A good size stream is flowing through the meadow. You squeeze through one of the sheds and 'aquire' some two by fours, nails, and a hammer. The cabin's screen door has never been used and sits behind an empty tank for the generator, who uses a screen door in the winter anyways. You make short work of it and soon have a five sided fish trap. You find a short waterfall where the stream bottlenecks and stick in your trap, there might be no fish traffic but at least it's worth a shot.

You get up and look down at your work proudly. You try wiping your brow but feel only dry fur. Panting instead of sweating is still odd, you didn't even notice yourself panting profusely. Maybe the sweatpants weren't such a good idea, but given that they're loose, full of holes, and that you're still otherwise naked they probably don't make much of a difference.

You're thoughts return to hungerand you say, "maybe the wolf will give me more food if I can ask for it". Not the best pronunciation, but since going outside you've been trying to repeat every song, poem, and movie line you'd ever been exposed to. The My Fair Lady score was particularly helpful. You turn towards the cabin and can immediately pick out wolfy casually looking at you with a notepad. "Might as well get this over with", you say slowly. You might be much bigger than a fox, but you probably couldn't take down a deer, especially if it wanted to fight. If the fish trap failed then the only significant food would come from wolf-woman killing something big that wasn't you.
