Slowly and carefully, the unlikely duo climbed out the bedroom window at 4 in the morning. The sun was just starting to rise over the horizon, casting an eerie shadow on everything. Megan was meticulous. She replaced the screen from the other side, carefully closed the window, and helped the handsome Deinonychus out of the tree as they scaled down together.
The human led the dinosaur to the garage door, which she opened, revealing the four door car sitting there. She hit the button by the inside of the door and the garage opened with quiet clanks.
She unlocked the car.
“Last I heard, Rick was out with your mom looking for you. They’re trying to find you before you wind up shot or in a zoo or something.”
The raptor stared as Megan opened the back door.
“Well? Get in! Who knows when they’ll head back to the house.”
Shocked, the dinosaur nodded sheepishly and climbed into the back seat. Megan gently closed the door and got in the front.
“Just stay low.” Megan instructed.
Brendon and Rex nodded and crunched themselves down into the back seat. Megan fired up the car, pulled out of the garage, and turned down the alley.
What took hours before took about ten minutes. Travelling through down town and back towards the upper rich side of the city was a non-event. Eventually, Megan turned down the road anxiously approaching Rick’s house.
“They’re not here!” Megan said excitedly. “I’m going to park in the back.”
Once the car stopped, secluded in the alley at the house’s back gate, Megan hurriedly opened the back door and urged the raptor out.
They swiftly made for the house, checking to make sure nobody was watching them. It was still early enough that nobody was awake. The key to the back door was hidden in some bushes. Megan knew it well enough that she was able to find it while Brendon/Rex crouched down beside the back door anxiously looking around.
The key hit the lock, and then they were inside.
Brendon began to tremble a little as Megan carefully paused to relock the door.
“It’s okay, guys,” she whispered. “Let’s get you downstairs.”
