"What about you, Steve?" asked Kat, "What would you say?" "Sorry my wife messed up your walk, buddy..." he answered. "Good one," Sarah smiled.
"And Jack?" asked Kat. "what would you say to our 'deer' friend?" Jack turned to face Dan and said "Hey, watch if you want, but it ain't stopping me! I'm a hungry guy... By the way, I don't envy your position... I'm glad I'm eatING instead of being eatEN, haha!" Again, everyone laughed.
Dan tried again to cheer himself up by making light of his situation... "Suppose I can't really blame them, can I?" He thought to himself... "Suppose I'd laugh as well if I were in their place. Would be kinda funny to be eating something that you feel is watching you... I guess... though it's not as funny from this side."
Everyone finished, cleaned up and headed into the living room to continue their visit, flipping off the dining room light and leaving Dan in the dark.
Dan thought to himself, "well, this is going to be boring as hell now, isn't it? I guess I'm going to have to learn to enjoy those people, as I don't really have anything else to do." He just tried to appreciate the quiet evening on the wall now, as he listened to the sounds of quiet conversation and laughter coming from the living room around the corner.
A couple of hours later, Dan heard Jack ask his mom if Kat could stay the night. "Sure thing," she replied, "But your Dad and I are off to bed. Just turn out the lights later when you two turn in, ok" "Ok Mom, thanks," said Jack. "Thanks again for dinner," said Kat, "It was delicious."
Moments later, the dining room light came on and Kat and Jack walked in. Kat grabbed two pieces of venison jerky and handed one to Jack. They each took a small bite and chewed.
"Jack," said Kat, "I need to tell you something." The two if them standing right in front of Dan, she went on to explain, "Have you ever noticed, Jack, that things tend to always go my way?" "Yeah, said Jack." "Well," she said "That's not exactly a coincidence. I am a witch... Don't worry, I'm a good witch, it's just that I had a super annoying brother and well, I turned him into a deer. It so happened that your mom shot him only a few minutes into his new life. But please promise me you will NEVER tell anyone. The guilt it would cause your mom would be horrendous. She doesn't need that." "OK," said Jack, "I promise I won't ever tell anyone."
"So the thing is, Jack," Kat continued, "That this deer head is.... well, it's dead of course... same as any other mounted deer head, except that it's conscious due to the spell I cast. It can see and hear us. But don't worry, it can't say anything."
"Not even to you?" asked Jack. "Nope, not even to me," said Kat. I used to have a telepathic channel open so I could hear what it was thinking, but I closed that off, permanently, after dinner tonight."
Jack took a minute to process this. "Wow! That... is crazy. So doesn't anybody look for or miss your brother?" "Nope," said Kat. "After my spell to turn him into a deer, I cast another spell to erase his existence. So essentially, he was never born." "Ok," said Jack, "So if he was never born, then there's no issue, right?" "Right," Kat answered.
"Well," said Jack, as he looked into Dan's eyes, "like I said, you can watch... It doesn't bother me any." Still standing right in front of Dan, both Jack and Kat stared into Dan's eyes for a minute, eating their jerky. Kat could no longer tell what Dan was thinking... and she didn't care. Finally Jack turned to Kat and said, "You know, we can have some fun with this?" Kat said "Yep, we sure can! And I have been! Haha!" and then she embraced Jack with a hug and long kiss... right in front of Dan.
After their embrace, Kat turned back to Dan and said "Dan, you are delicious, and I love you for that." Jack said "Oh, Dan, is that your would-have-been brother's name?" "Yep," said Kat, "Again, you can have fun as much fun with that as you like, just don't tell anyone." "Got it," said Jack.
Jack turned to Dan, "Wow, Dan, you must have been a horrible brother. Knowing all this, it's still strange that you're part of our food now, but whatever dude. You're venison now, right? All fine by me. Maybe you even wanted this? Yeah? Probably walked right in front of my mom on purpose?! Haha! Well, Dan, wanna know what I think? Here's what I think!" And with that he got right up in Dan's face, popped the last bite of his jerky strip into his mouth and chewed slowly. "Haha, look at that, dude..." as he opened his mouth, "That's you, dude! And you can't do a damn thing about it, can you? Haha, hope you're enjoying watching your four favorite mouths slowly wipe you out, dude. Got about 100 dinners worth of your meat left in our freezer. You cold in there? Don't worry, we'll warm you up... just a little bit at a time, that's all!"
"Oh my God, Jack, you're hilarious," said Kat, as she kissed him again. "And Dan," she said, "Yeah... pretty much what Jack said, haha." She also popped her last bite of jerky in her mouth, chewed slowly, being sure to lick and smack her lips a few times, and said to Dan, "Well, thanks for dinner. Sure is nice to be going off to bed here with a full belly."
And with that, Jack led Kat off to his room as they turned out the lights behind them.
